All the guides I read said you need the TORX but I just opened up my Craftsman hex key set and used the fitting one from there.

I decided to clean my MAF with CRC cleaner and was wondering if I should also be spraying down the long thin metal lines that are exposed.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I decided to clean my MAF with CRC cleaner and was wondering if I should also be spraying down the long thin metal lines that are exposed. This pic is something I used to guide in my cleaning and is someone else's pic...but take a look near his thumb/o-ring...that's the area I'm questioning. Most references only show to spray the area circled.

POST 2Original post

Spray everything, including the contacts on the outside of the MAF.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well this is just a FYI for people who search for removing / cleaning the MAF in the future: 1. Pretty easy to do...only tools you need is a set of hex keys and CRC electrical cleaner. 2. It's much easier to remove the MAF by leaving the harness connected first, removing the 2 screws, then turn the harness over so you can see the back of the clip. You'll see the center piece pushes in. Mine was too hard to push with my fingers (and would explain why it took me 30 mins trying to remove the harness while the MAF was still screwed in) so I took nose hair plyers and clicked the release that way. After that, it's easy sailing. Clean and reinstall.

POST 4Original post

If you want to loosen the MAF from the harness, you'll need a security Torx T-20. Those are harder to come by and your average Home Depot, but you can generally find them online in no time.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Edward, All the guides I read said you need the TORX but I just opened up my Craftsman hex key set and used the fitting one from there. No issues with using it and the fit was perfect. - Jack

POST 6Original post

I have never used a Torx to remove a MAF. Hex works fine.
