Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

hi everyone. i bought a mk1 c4 with the aero package. i love the look of the classic porsche roof line so i want to replace the taco wing/deck(1 piece) with the standard retractable deck.
2 questions.
1. will a standard retractable deck from a mk1 cab fit my car?
2. is there a write up on how to install the wiring if there was never one installed before?
1. Yes as long as your C4 is not an "S" model.
2. The wiring should already be there or make sure it is included with your replacement wing. The aerokit spoiler has a special wiring harness, although some have installed their by just adapting into the existing wires. Here's a thread with more info:

maybe you should get rid of the stock aero front bumper too....you know, to get that classic look. probably find some takers on that as well....then it'll be able to go through car washes and close to curbs.
Thanks for your comments and suggestions. There's quite a few OEM rear decks sold online and ebay for around $500-$600. I guess I can keep the taco wing if I change my mind in the future. If there are interested buyer I consider the offers too.
I really you would hurt the value of the car if you sold after taking the taco off. Keep in mind a new OEM taco is VERY expensive. I had mine replaced after someone backed into it with a pick up. $8200 later (thru insurance) I have a new taco wing.
Although I'm sure you could find many takers for swapping out for the taco decklid, I would keep the original body parts in the event that you want to sell the car later.
+1 on keeping the taco wing
that part is ridiculously expensive.
plus its the only redeeming feature of the 996, which is not the prettiest camper w/out the aero kit.
I like the classic look as well, plus the taco wing looks absurd--that is, it exactly resembles something that a teenager would install on a riced out Civic.
i agree, I don't like the taco wing.
But for some strange reason I
REALLY
like the look of the much more exaggerated and obnoxiously large GT2 wing/kit.
I think mine is pretty obnoxious and the hunt is on for something different. I am still going fixed though. Without the full body kit on my 996, the wing looks a bit out of place.
Really? I actually do kind of like it if I had the full kit. I feel like a poser at some PCar events and feel like I am being snickered at behind my back. If the "community" is ok with it then mabye I should be. I need to have it resprayed since there is some orange peel that is driving me insane.
I'm going to use your pic as a background for a while. It's awesome.
You would only be a poser if you removed your Carrera emblem and replaced it with GT2.
Or so the story goes...
I agree. With that said, why not just add a body kit?
Plus your LED tails look even more rediculous without a body kit. Just sell me your taillights and return to normalcy.
My LEDs are working fantastically. I am actually selling them. Like a dummy, I accidentally chipped off the lower corner. Not a major deal and not a huge distraction from the look. The vendor gave me a break on a new set so I will replace them. I will post up them up, with pics in the FS section this weekend. I will let them go pretty cheap.
I love the look of them and have had no hyper flashing issues. I like the safety feature that there is now more light back there at night compared to stock.
