I had to run all over town for a 16mm triple square bit, and then still had to drill out the belly button to get it to fit.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am under an old car to drain the transmission, and found this drain plug. 24mm tapered drain plug, with internal triple square tamper proof tool fitting (with an outtie belly button). I had to run all over town for a 16mm triple square bit, and then still had to drill out the belly button to get it to fit. What were they trying to do? Preventing James Bond from sabotaging the car by letting all the gear oil out?

POST 2Original post

Maybe there's a demon trapped inside there, and they're making sure it doesn't escape and unleash chaos on the earth. Proceed with caution...

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I found a bit. I drilled out the nubby thing on the drain plug so the non-tamper-proof bit would fit. Pain in the butt.

Maybe it's an early/late thing. I know Porsche has done some weird stuff over the years but it's hard to believe they could have done something this stupid. In any case, do yourself a favor and buy two of the male style plugs. Porsche part #90012402001.

POST 7Original post

Something I get to look forward to doing soon! The dreaded transmission oil change.....lol. Hope I have a normal nut(s) :P)

POST 8Original post

There are other large triple square bolts on it. IMO they went a little overboard with the security version, but I suppose they wanted to make sure you really wanted to undo that drain.

POST 9Original post

Some " Quick Lube " places have a guy in the ground that looks for drain plugs, ANY DRAIN PLUG , and will have it out and drained before you know it.....lol This has happened many many times over the years...
