I'll have to think about getting an early yearly oil change - I have only put 1000 miles on it since having the IMSR and other "while you are in there" things done at Flat 6.

I've been thinking about using Techron IV in my 987 because it has worked well in my other cars in the past (Honda, Subaru), but why do you recommend changing the oil immediately?

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

I'm lind of used to a lot of snow storms in this area of New England - I'm happy with this winter - I have been able to drive my car a lot more on great days like today when the temps are nearing 48. Normally there would be too much melting snow and salt on the roads - I try to avoid driving in that crap - that is why my beater Hyundai Elantra is for!
I did a bit of URAD leather conditioning today, as well as washing the car and setting the tire pressures. Put in a bottle of Techron and some Stabil in case some strorms come by and my car needs to stay in storage for a few weeks. I wish my storage unit had power for a battery tender. Normally my car would be in it's storage facility most of the winter, but I have been driving quite a bit recently
Here are some pics - you've seen a stock 40th AE, so nothing much to note other than my bad skills at hiding the tag/plate
When I was done, I went for a ride - visited the dealership and checked out the new 991. They had one in Black - an S with the doppelkupplungsgetriebe transmisstion.
The had a couple of nice 2009-2012 997s too, as well as a 2012 Black Turbo (147K).
When I bought my car 2.5 years ago, they had several 996's for sale - now there is not one to be found at the dealer in their used inventory.
Steve, your car looks great. Nice work!
I store one of my cars in a facility like yours. Do you have a high lip on the garage's apron? Looks like it. I do to. I use a couple 2 x 12 with a bevel cut on the edges, to protect my rims, going in & out. I use the same boards to pre-lift the car, when using the floor jack.
FYI, in the future, use the Techron prior to your yearly oil change. Just a prudent and over conservative approach. Add the Techron, run the tank low, re-fill, than change your oil
This far south we are lucky enough to drive our cars all winter. Looks like you may be able to do that this year and not worry about the long term winter storage. Car looks great by the way.
Thanks everyone - thanks for the Techron tip too. I'll have to think about getting an early yearly oil change - I have only put 1000 miles on it since having the IMSR and other "while you are in there" things done at Flat 6.
The apron going into the storage is only about 3/4" up, so it never has any effect on coming near the rims, so I don't have any issues with that - but that's a good idea. What you see in the pictures might be the 2" aluminum trim on the bottom of all the doors (but you can see the 3/4" bump in my open unit in one of the pictures).
Steve, car looks fantastic. Silver with the chrome wheels is always an eyecatcher. I too am enjoying a rather "dry" winter in Toronto, and able to get on the road much more than I planned.
I've been thinking about using Techron IV in my 987 because it has worked well in my other cars in the past (Honda, Subaru), but why do you recommend changing the oil immediately?
Thanks
I was wondering that too - I used it as a gas additive, not in with the oil. I believe things like Seafoam can be added to the oil or the gas - correct me if I'm wrong.
car looks great. AE's are desireable for their look and options. It's funny how 996's FS are abundant at some point, then suddenly there are no decent one's anywhere FS. It will pry happen over the next year + with 997's, but 996 prices will be so much more attractive for everyday enthusiasts to afford one.
Enjoy your ride even more with no snow or salt on the ground this far into the season.
btw, your "polished" AE wheels look great and speaks volumes for the original condition your car is in. no need to mod the looks. if your car doesn't have PSE, go with some Fister D's or a good hack and be done.
Thanks - I have been thinking about the Fister D's since there is no PSE on this car. Not sure if I want to ship them to have Fister D do them, or go to a local muffler shop with the pics of the procedure I have been collecting. It would save on shipping charges.
