Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am about to set my engine at TDC before my IMS change, but I have one question. Does it matter if cylinder 1 is on TDC for the exhaust stroke or the compression stroke? I haven't been able to find anything about this. Robert

POST 2Original post

Not important, just make sure the engine is pinned at TDC. With that question though, you really should read more about the cam timing on this engine before you just dive in.

POST 3Original post

It does not matter. At TDC the cams sit flat and are not loading any valves. There is lots of confirmation in various threads on this site. Jake at Flat6 has commented on this several times. It is recommended to lock the cams though and the LNE kit includes a cam lock. I did my IMS last year myself. Best of luck!

Sorry to be obtuse, but what do you mean by this? (curious)

POST 5Original post

I'm sorta commenting on another thread where he asked about how he can verify timing when he is done. IMHO, the OP should read and understand how the timing works, how to find out what the timing is, and then observe how his car is timed BEFORE starting the IMS retrofit procedure. Even if he locks the cams during the procedure, before he even does this or pin the engine at TDC.... he should rotate the engine by hand and observe the timing marks before he locks the crank at TDC, before he locks the cams, before he pulls the tensioners. That way, when he gets the retrofit in, and all of the tensioners back in, and locks removed he can then rotate the engine again by hand to make sure the timing marks are exactly as they were before he started.

POST 6Original post

OK <study mode on why this engine is different than others and where the tensioners actuate, pull or slack side...scratching head...need an exploded view of engine>

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
