Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Im changing the water pump this weekend, should I consider repalcing the thermostat as well?

POST 2Original post

Yes. You've already drained the coolant from that area and they do eventually go bad. I'd drop in a new one to save your self a hassle later. -Shawn

POST 3Original post

If you like replace it with a low temp thermostat. You won't find it at your OPC but PelicanParts sells this.

My mechanic friends always told me to replace the water pump and T-stat together. But they also told me to drop the old t-stat and new t-stat in a pot of hot water and verify the new (and old) t-stat opened fully at its rated temperature. Let the water cool down and verify the t-stat closes fully too. If the old one doesn't open or close at the right temps then you may have some explanation for cooling issues, if there were any. But if the new one doesn't open or close properly you know it *before* you install it and can get another and if it works ok then install it knowing it opens at the right temperature. Sincerely, Macster.

Thanks as always gents. I will replace as advised, plus it just makes good sense. No cooling issues, just a leaking pump.
