by pedal pressure it feels like you need to step on brakes harder that with rs29 and much much harder than with PFC pads but i did not see stopping distance to change much and drove car at same pace as before.

Suggestion

EBC's aren't as good as some of the other brands out there, but I like them because they do give pretty darn good stopping power for the money, are easy on rotors, and yet are mild enough to use on the street (and still get heat in them to stop).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, Changing my brake pads and i am deciding between stock porsche pads or EBC red stuff. Anyone had experience with RED STUFF or YELLOW STUFF? Cheers

POST 2Original post

Here in the UK people don't seem to have a very good opinion of the EBC pads due to issues with the pads breaking up. I have a set of yellows but I don't think I will install them. Or I may install the rears in conjunction with some DS2500s I have for the front for track days in order to see how they hold up.

POST 3Original post

I picked up the Porsche Sport Pads and have been happy with them so far.

POST 4Original post

are you tracking the car? If not standard brake pads will be pretty darn good, and even for light to moderate track events they still do OK !

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No tracking! hahaha. But stock brake pads give off F******g alot of brake dust ... hahaha no ebc for me then ...

POST 6Original post

I use the Red stuff pads on my 996 with good results. Because they are ceramic compound pads, there Much, Much less brake dust, and overall very good brake performance. I recommend them.

POST 7Original post

had not thought about dust.... if reds=less dust that could be good as long as there is not parking lot sqeueal (unless that doesnt bother you either) do the reds make noise?

POST 8Original post

Generally, they are completely silent. They have made a slight noise occasionally when cold but not the kind of squeal that you are talking about. An interesting thing about the Red Stuff pads is that they are coated with an abrasive material when new that wears off after one or two uses and in the process cleans off any glazing that the rotors may have accumulated from the old pads.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hahaha. RED STUFF it is then! Anyway, is it safe to not put brake pad sensors on? I heard that ceramic compund brake pads wears off the rotors faster. Is that true?

POST 10Original post

The EBC pads are drilled for the wear sensor. I have found that on my other cars with Ceramic pads that rotor and pad life are about the same or longer than organic pads, but the wear is not as aggressive as with semi-metallic pads. If your current wear sensors are ok, then you can remove them from the old pads and put them on the new ones. Just gently grab them with pliers and pull them out of the old pads.

Sounds awesome. Gonna get meself some new ebc pads and rotors then (: thanks for the feedback! Appreciate it. Was wondering, is it worth changing the brake line to SS ones? Cheers

POST 12Original post

Others may differ, but for street use, no, the OEM lines are fine.

POST 13Original post

I use yellows on my track car which I use to drive on the street as well. They work great and are affordable. They just came out with a new blue compound that is more race oriented, so that will probably be my next set of pads. EBC's aren't as good as some of the other brands out there, but I like them because they do give pretty darn good stopping power for the money, are easy on rotors, and yet are mild enough to use on the street (and still get heat in them to stop). Also mine have never made a peep in terms of brake noise. They last a LONG time in a DE environment. I have also never had or seen a pad break up on me or others.

I spent end of the last season on them as i finaly killed my pagid yellows and needed something to replace them with quickly when RS29 were out of stock. I agree on that statement above - i am not hard on my brakes but drive fast enough to make stock street pads to fade. yellowstuff never faded on me. by pedal pressure it feels like you need to step on brakes harder that with rs29 and much much harder than with PFC pads but i did not see stopping distance to change much and drove car at same pace as before. just need to make sure brakes are bled to keep pedal firm. those were only track pads i found so far that did not squeek like crazy on my car. any other brand i could not use on a street as it screeched crazy loud, and that is with windows closed, not sure how bad it was for anybody outside. if anybody else used EBC yellowstuff 4000 compound and got something else in result - please respond as i just got another set front/rear for next season and it was funny cheap - $273 for whole front/rear set, exactly 2 times less than PFC 01 costs.

POST 17Original post

I have Red Stuff pads on my car now, they're okay. Initial bite is a little soft, but not alarmingly soft. I haven't been able to get them hot enough to fade yet, so that's good. Also, they aren't very dusty which is fantastic because the brakes on my old Audi turned the wheels black in about a week. Another good option for street cars that only see a little bit of track use is Akebono brake pads.

POST 18Original post

I have the Red Stuff on the front of my car and when I go to wash it the rear wheels (with stock pads) are dirtier than the front! The front brakes are also silent and that is quite impressive considering I removed the dampers from the calipers to make it easier to swap in my sport pads when I go to DEs.

POST 19Original post

I found an interesting comparison page on EBC. http://www.perfectbrakes.com/bluestufflink.asp they claim yellowstuff to be comparable with PFC 97 and bluestuff with PFC01. not sure if I would agree, but, well, for what it`s worth...
