I also want to know how do you change from low horn to high horn - is it speed dependent, or how hard you push to activate?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What is the best way to test the high horn - only the low horn works for now. I do plan on removing the front bumper cover to clean the radiators soon - is there a simple test to see if horn or wiring issue while I am in there? This is for a 2001 996

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I also want to know how do you change from low horn to high horn - is it speed dependent, or how hard you push to activate? Seems like a silly question - but it has 2 horns and no info in the owners manual.

POST 5Original post

My horn(s) seem to work only when they feel like it (they do not activate on their own, however). Does this generally point to a failure in the framework behind the airbag that I've read about, or something else? Relay?

POST 6Original post

If your fuses are ok, yes the airbag retaining frame bushings wear over time. There are plenty of threads here and on rt.org about how you can fill them with silicone, replace them with new grommets, or replace the entire airbag frame. All are fairly simple to do.
