Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

One of the O-rings of the spark plug is worn which caused my oil leak. Is this a minor problem? Has anyone experienced it before?

POST 3Original post

How old is your car? There is a TSB dated May of 1998. As follows: "New O-Ring on Oil Protection Pipe A new large end o-ring was introduced into production as of November 24, 1997, from M96/01 engine number: 66 W 02551 The new large end o-ring is red in color and made of material containing silicone. When performing oil protection pipe repairs on engines prior to the above engine number, the former large end o-ring (black)should be replaced with the new red o-ring. Note: When removing the o-ring from the oil protection pipe, be careful not to damage or scratch the o-ring groove. The small end o-ring is unchanged. Parts: Part Number, Description 999 707 215 40 O-ring, 27.94 x 5.33 mm, new for large end (red) 999 707 406 40 O-ring, 25.07 x 2.62 mm, small end (black, unchanged) 999 707 405 40 O-ring, 27.94 x 5.33mm, former large end (black, no longer available)"

POST 4Original post

I was thinking it might be something else as well. Is the oil pipe the filler tube into the block?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My car is a 1999. It has just over 7100 miles. Does the oil protection pipe has anything to do with the O-ring of the spark plugs?

POST 6Original post

I think you are talking about 2 or 3 different things. The black plastic spark plug tubes have 2 O-rings on each tube, and they do sometimes leak. When that happens they are pulled out and the O-rings replaced. The tubes bridge the space from the cam cover to the head. There is no rubber O-ring on a spark plug. This is a Boxster but a 996 has the same thing.
