Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi, im new to this site and im buying a Porsche very very soon, most likely within the next 2 months. I am buying a 996 but not sure which one i want. I am contemplating between a GT3 or a turbo. if i buy the GT3 i will stroke it and add the parts to officially make it a RS. I usually go to the track at least every 2 weeks and i also do a few runs on the highway with a few friends when the track is closed. Now i love the GT3 but at the same time i want the high horsepower that the turbo offers or has the potential to offer. Most people tell me not to get the turbo because of the horrible turbo lag and the constant problems. This is my first Porsche, i have always loved them and now its time to own one. Please dont tell me my first Porsche shouldnt be either a GT3 or a turbo cause ive driven cars that were faster and i have driven a few GT2's. My friends have a supercharged M3, GTR, M5, superchargered E55, C63 and i want to be able to keep up with them. Please give me your opinions on what would be better (car will not be daily driven) Advice and opinions are greatly appreciated, thanks guys.
At the risk of feeding a troll....
Turbo is more luxurious. GT3 is more sporty.
Turbo has 4 wheel drive. GT3 is rear wheel drive.
There is no turbo lag in a modern Porsche.
GT3 and GT3RS have the same displacement - you ain't stoking nothing (except maybe your ego)
GT3 is the track car so if you're going to track the car then that would be the obvious answer.
Lastly - this is the 996 NA forum. There's a Turbo forum over there, and a GT3 forum over there.
raceway park is not only a drag strip. theres no point of trying to convince u guys. magic carpet ride? im not even going to argue. i thought i would get some honest advice but u guys ovviously think im kidding. i dont know whats funny. i just wanted a serious answer.
I agree with the previous comments. If you buy a GT3 and put a "stroker kit" on it, then it won't make it an official GT3RS. A GT3RS is a different animal.
From your post, it's not clear what you are really trying to do. You mention track use, making the GT3 a great choice, but you also appear to be interested in drag racing on the street with your friends. You're asking for two different things here.
If you really want to beat your friends on the track and you can't do it in a GT3, then professional driving instruction will provide you with a much greater benefit than a "stroker kit". If you want to drag race, then maybe a Porsche isn't your best choice. Turbos are very quick, but they aren't really made to drag race.
I am also planning to buy a 996 in the next month or two. I am looking for the most expensive car my wife will allow me to get, which probably means the cheapest POS 996 on the planet. I do not plan to track my car because I would be terrified of wrecking it. But I did make the mistake of test-driving one a few weeks ago and haven't been able to sleep since. Mid-Feb I have the green light to get one so when the right car for the right price appears, I'll get it.
Ok. I will offer up my humble option. Raceway Park 1.35 mile road course is hardly a road coarse. More like an Auto Cross without cones...
My 282 HP 993 Porsche would decimate any E55, M5 and C63 on any road course or Auto Cross. Main Point here, HP does not make the car. Driver (mostly) and Suspension will make you legendary in the racing world. Not how much money you spend to go fast in a straight line.
We are guessing you are young by your brash uninformed comments and desire to "keep up" with cars that hardly perform well in a track environment.
I do appreciate your enthusiasm and hope you pursue it in a safe way with much coaching.
Just be sure to keep your absolutes to a minimum with topics that you don't know much about.
