Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I use the adaptor and a shorty filter, gets changed and opened every 800-1000 miles.
Leading evidence: 'Use adaptor and a shorty filter, gets' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check metal bits' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I use the L&N spin on filter and while my car isn't lowered with the recommended Mobil 1 filter it hangs down less than the stock filter.

My thoughts are that it is nice to open the OEM filter and check for metal bits.

I use the LN magnetic drain plug & a Filter-Mag attached to the spin-on filter, if I ever see metal on the drain plug I will cut open the filter to check for more metal.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Guys,
What are the thoughts on the LNE Spin-On Full-Flow Oil Filter Adapter? Also , what are the thoughts on the LNE Deep Sump Kit, .5 or 2 Quarts? Is the deep sump kit necessary with and X51 engine?
I am new to the water pumper/wet sump world. Man what a difference! Good and bad.....
It is like I am learning to drive for the first time and there is a totally new vertical mechanical learning curve.
My thoughts are that it is nice to open the OEM filter and check for metal bits. I don't know if that is possible or necessary with a screw on filter.
I have already done the LNE IMS replacement, totally preventative. The OEM bearing looked new after the removal.
Thank you for your time.
Eric
Here is a pic of my new water pumper. It is a 99 with 04 3.6 X51 motor. Totally stock except LSD, pss9,some GT3 suspension parts and gutted.
Nice car!
Take a look at this page, Charles recently updated it:
http://www.lnengineering.com/accusump.html
Right near the top:
"I have an "X51" Oil Baffle and/or a .5 QT Deep Sump. Why is this not enough?"
A good read since he updated it!
Right, but the info in there certainly applies to your question... it's a good read regardless.
There's more info in there about the oil scavenge pump on the x51..
If you use the spin-on filters you have to cut the filter open & there are special tools made to do this. I use the LN magnetic drain plug & a Filter-Mag attached to the spin-on filter, if I ever see metal on the drain plug I will cut open the filter to check for more metal. LN has a new billet spin-on filter with cleanable filter element that can be reused after cleaning.
Benefit of the spin on adapter:
"The LN Engineering Spin-On Oil filter adapter also helps improve the longevity of your engine by providing full flow filtration, which means 100% of the oil gets filtered without having oil bypass the filter (as the factory filter housing allows for). Our design eliminates the factory bypass for the filter (engine still has a pressure relief in the oil pump to prevent over pressurization)."

Also with the spin on adapter it's easy to bolt on other mods such as an accusump.
