Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

They assembled everything "dry", then sprayed and cleaned the outside of the IMS plate with brake cleaner and three hours later I was back on the road with renewed leaking.

It could of course be the newly replaced RMS but it looked dry when it was apart in May, although they could have wiped it clean...they did the RMS just over a year ago.
Leading evidence: 'Clean outside of the ims plate' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). my IMS bearing and RMS were replaced including clutch and flywheel last month.....**i belive the sealant is recommended in the instructions that come with the ln engineering ceramic IMS bearing.

I had the IMSB replaced in May on my '02, drove less than 300km when unfortunately end Aug it was hit by reversing soccer mom and has been first waiting for the right shop to be free, and only now going through last stages of re-assembly.

last month there was another post with photos showing the same sealant being used with the IMS install.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Suggestion
if the sealant wasn't necessary, why would they call for it in the instructions?....as it was explained to me, only the areas where it is air tight does the sealant do it's work and dry and the excess sealant dissappears with time so it would be impossible to tell if sealant was used on the original installation.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi
I had the IMSB replaced in May on my '02, drove less than 300km when unfortunately end Aug it was hit by reversing soccer mom and has been first waiting for the right shop to be free, and only now going through last stages of re-assembly. during the period I did drive it, the oil leak that had been before the IMSB replacement actually got worse and it will now leave a drop or two after a spirited drive. Shop notified, but their answer as expected is only to say "we'll put it on the lift and see where it takes us". Fair enough. I was there for the IMS procedure and I know we did not apply any special procedures to mnmise leaks, only reassembled it with the components. Since then, someone posted a pic with lots of "orange" sealant all over and under the bolt heads etc. They assembled everything "dry", then sprayed and cleaned the outside of the IMS plate with brake cleaner and three hours later I was back on the road with renewed leaking.
I'm looking for facts I can use against the dealer so I don't have to fork out another $2k. Should they have used extra sealant? It could of course be the newly replaced RMS but it looked dry when it was apart in May, although they could have wiped it clean...they did the RMS just over a year ago.
Or do you think I should forget this place and any chance to recoup some of the cost and drop my $2k with an independent who knows what to do although typically never leave guarantees on jobs like this?
Any insights or thoughts greatly appreciated
Mike
black_on_black...i'm the person who posted the photo of the IMS bearing replacement showing the orange sealant used. my IMS bearing and RMS were replaced including clutch and flywheel last month.....**i belive the sealant is recommended in the instructions that come with the ln engineering ceramic IMS bearing. if i remember correctly the mechanic showed me the instruction booklet and pointed to the info on the sealant...here is the photo showing newly installed bearing with the sealant.
thanks, that's the photo I meant, never seen sealant like that before. I'm surprised because there is an o-ring on the bearing stud, proper seals on the flange - that extra sealant is "unnecessary" from engineering perspective and not there from factory.
They're gonna claim the stuff I brought with me had broken seals or whatever as it is not oem as Porsche doesnt recognise the IMS problem, though I remember them being surprised to find a porsche part no on one of the boxes...
prolly going to be an "interesting" heated debate methinks
Once you take it elsewhere to get fixed you'll most likely be on the hook $ wise. I would go back to the shop that did your work and try to get the to rectify the leak.GL

good luck with the outcome.
OK, unanimous response
I'll give them another try and I'll be there to watch them remove the FW, want to know if it is the RMS or IMS and they should have the right loctite goo as it is a porsche goo used to oil pan too I guess?
really longing to get the car back after fixing as by then probably nearly five months without it...leak or no leak, a good spin is called for
