Reported cause
Great winding road and the only problem is the 35mph speed limit.
Leading evidence: '35mph speed limit' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is '35mph speed limit' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean ....i couldn't imagine what i'd go through' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I spent a stupid amount of time keeping my Arena Red 993 clean....I couldn't imagine what I'd go through with a black car.

Just curious to hear the cleaning/polishing process that you guys go through (and how often) to get that liquid shine?

BTW - Black is hardest to keep clean - first car I have to dry with a towel after every wash - but I think worth it.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Since you called me out (and we now have power back - after the snow) - here are some pics:

awe - now the real Porsche guys come out !!
Best Shot: Steve's car !
Funny a$$ post: Tim's worn out pictures tie with Marc's Google image statement

my turn for some well worn pics of my car:
- black is the best color !!! (LOTS OF WORK, scratches just by looking at it) but if you want it green, park it by some trees, blue... just put it in the sun, red, near some buildings, white... some snow... black is best becasue it reflects the suroundings the best - PS no photo editing here, just point and shoot camera....
how about one with a turret on the roof
I live in North Wales but i work in Oxford near London, the snow has been quite bad this winter
although it looked worse in New York !
black is a pita but at least its rewarding to clean unlike silver
I can make your's black. I just searched for a picture of your current car but gave up. Post one and I'll made it black
And yes I am very blue and green with envy
Show us yours first
I get the race the off road urge every time I'm on grass or dirt. Excelent picture. Possibly better surrounding and the reflection glowing like in that icture and the pic will be even more outstanding. Best to have car shaded I figure.
I have walked to Bromley from my sister's house - lovely town. I really love England - I had taken the train into Charing Cross and caught a taxi to Kensington Palace, I told the driver that I was visiting my sister and he cut my fare in half
Have been there so many times I have lost count - did I mention that I Love England

Live in NORTH Wales - WOW! And the Oxford I'm thinking about is not anywhere near London
I just hope you don't have a daily commute
We were actually having a picnic with fish 'n chips on the menu. It was at a national park an hour away north of Wellington through twisty bits (no surprises why I chose that place for a picnic).
GIXXERUK - thx!
looks good doesnt it?
I will admit, sometimes its hard to reflect back but without exception everytime I drive my little red car i forget all about it - which is nearly everyday.
Truely feel jealous of people like Marc who have both....I would miss the 86' just as much if I sold it....maybe more - I just chose the wrong profession to support more than one at a time (or I need to ditch the house, wife and kids
)
After looking at that thread started by the guy that just bought the 2010 GT3, I'm thinking I might need to do the same. Maybe we could room up together in some sh*thole apartment in Kent, split the rent and drive $150K super cars?
Karen,
I have enjoyed this 2002 black beauty for six months now and have yet to be disappointed. I recently gave it a Meguiars cleanup to remove the small swirl marks and it is even better than these photos. What are you going to do with your collection?
DROOL
I have been trying to wean myself from this site (can't seem to get anything else done), but every time I sign in it is like going to a new car show for FREE
Thanks "geetee"... yes, Ann Arbor, MI - Go Blue. When did you live here? Winter is much too long these days and we are suppose to get more than 15" of snow tonight. Counting down until April which is when we have reasonable weather to take it out of the garage as you well know.
Heidorn, geetee: Go Blue!
Here is a black car which, if all goes well, will be joining my stable on Saturday. Many a slip twixt the cup and the lip, though, so I've gotta play it

I do a 550 mile round trip from wales to Oxford each week, so the 40 miles from Oxford to London feels very near
reridge + inviktus - love those rims
what polish is everyone using ?? i like poorboys black hole and dodo juice supernatural wax
"geetee" & "Invikuis" good to know there are other fans of Michigan on this board from Ann Arbor area. Nothing like driving Huron River drive to Dexter with the top down (or up if you are in a coupe) and along the river with an accelerated speed now and then. Great winding road and the only problem is the 35mph speed limit. "Inviktus" great looking car and good luck getting it into the stable on Saturday with all the snow coming. Hope all goes well in your pursuit...
After you hit Dexter, take the dexter-pinckney road up to Howell. It's a pretty nice drive and you won't see your V1 go off. I use to take that road to UM from Howell.
Black cars almost seem like a life style. I spent a stupid amount of time keeping my Arena Red 993 clean....I couldn't imagine what I'd go through with a black car. Nope....I want a car about the color of dirt. It will never have the presence of a black car, but I'll get to drive it.
LOL - nothing worse than a summer day with plenty of "stuff" (read grasses/pollen) in the air... you spend all morning on the car and its dirty before you get it inside the garage having not driven it yet....
but then again, that "dirt" flies off at speed
I'm moving from a Silver to a Black car ... so I'm reading this thread with a bit of car care trepidation. Going to need to step up my game.
There are some truly beautiful cars on these pages. Just curious to hear the cleaning/polishing process that you guys go through (and how often) to get that liquid shine?
Few quick questions.
1) My "fear" is swirl control. If you are careful not to create swirl in the washing process, how often do you find yourselves having to use a swirl removal product?
2) Any suggestions on a good swirl control product?
3) Do you guys typically use random orbital buffers to apply product, or just elbow grease.
Love to hear any tips on "keeping it liquid looking" from the Army of experience out there! Thanks.
Here are some tips for swirl control:
Use a two bucket wash/rinse approach with a Grit Guard in the rinse bucket.
Wash and rinse one panel at a time (clean the wash mitt with the Grit Guard after each panel). Work from top to bottom...wash the front bumper and lower rockers last.
Obviously do not wash in a circular motion...wash front-to-back as the air flows over the car.
Use something like an Air Force Blaster to dry the car - not towels
As for removing swirls (they will eventually show up especially on black) the process is something like this and would need to be done 1-2 times per year:
Wash/dry
Clay Bar
1st step Polish (aggressive enough polish/pad to remove swirls)
2nd step Polish (less aggressive polish/pad to remove marring from 1st step polish)
Cleaner (in order to remove all polish residue)
Wax or Sealant (I would recommend Sealant on black as it should offer longer protection against swirls)
For polishing, a rotary buffer is the preferred professional method but it is difficult to use and you can burn edges of the paint if you are not experienced in using one. Most weekend warriors start with a random orbital buffer. Flex has an excellent random orbital that has a good amount of power but is also easy to use. No fear with burning the paint with a Flex. Then you will need a set of polishing pads (see Lake Country) and polish (see Meguiars).
Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions....

Thanks, Fly. I'm going to print this and put it in my glove box.
Having a Silver car, I had no need for a random orbital. It looks like I'll have to go in that direction. Is it possible to accomplish the same result using pure elbow grease? No problem spending the money, just wondering if hand polishing offers more control and a "muscle-building opportunity."
