Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

They put the computer on and ran the codes and said that a 'fluke mis-fire in cylinders 1 and 6' caused the check engine light to turn on.

The tech told me to clean my K&N air filter so I was looking for detailed instructions on how to do this (including opening the air filter casing).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
A couple of weeks ago I got the check engine light (yellow, staying on) in my car. I disconnected the battery and reconnected it and it went away. A few days later, it came back on a couple of days later so I went to my local dealer (HBL in Tysons). They put the computer on and ran the codes and said that a 'fluke mis-fire in cylinders 1 and 6' caused the check engine light to turn on. They printed me out the entire log of DME failure codes and even hacked the computer so the temperature readout now shows up underneath the digital speedo. They did all this for free (the service techs there are really laid back which is a lot different from their sales staff) which I thought was really cool.
The tech told me to clean my K&N air filter so I was looking for detailed instructions on how to do this (including opening the air filter casing). The technician told me to clean it with gasoline and not to oil it as the oil is spilling on the MAF sensor and could produce faulty engine messages. Also from all of you who are more knowlegeable of these engines, does all of this sound reasonable?
Thanks in advance,
Ash996
Just get the kit which includes the oil spray and cleaner. Follow the instructions cleaing it and then let it dry. Once dry use the spray oil and coat it and let it dry and then retouch where white spots are. Let it sit out a day and then chuck it in the car. I let mine dry for about 4 hours in the hot sun and it was fine. I also wiped it down around where the plastic surround is as there was runoff that didn't dry on the cotton. Then chuck it in.
You don't need to clean the filters as often as you think. I would just buy a new filter if it is really dirty. The oil on MAF sensor is $250 for the part.
