It was replaced by porsche under warranty and was given a 2 yr warranty.

I just replaced the alternator on my 04 Mercedes will it fail again?

When you eventually do the replace the clutch then you can also replace the intermediate shaft bearing with the aftermarket upgrade for total peace of mind.

Im new here. So thanks ahead of time. I'm looking at a 2002 996 that had the engine replaced in 97 with 52k miles for IMS failure . Should I be concerned it will happen again? Car now has about 67k on it. Otherwise it's a clean car.

I'd be more concerned about the flux capacitor... how else will you get to 88 mph?
Seriously, welcome to Rennlist. I am assuming you meant '07? I suspect that it would have had some updates, but not an IMS update. IIRC, it also depends on the date of the engine rebuild as well.
"New" Porsche rebuilt (2yr warrenty) or salvage yard engine? If Porsche rebuilt some folks would say car might be worth more then if it had it's original engine.
Regardless the engine still has an IMS bearing so sure it could fail. Will it? Probably not. If you are going to lose sleep over it don't buy a 1998-2008 "911" (including all Boxster and Cayman to 09) they all have the new ball bearing IMS bearings.

It will be fine if you drive it and change the oil regular like.

Unless that is, your engine is one of the last iterations where Porsche made a major change to the bearing and how it is held in the case.
IIRC the last version was improved, but could not be retrofitted.
Either way, you don't have to worry for a quite a while.
