Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I dont know how to check the oil, isnt there an electronic guage that illuminates a number of bars indicating level at first start up of the day (dont look at it on subsiquant start up "warm") and run it about in the middle or low middle IMO

(UPDATE: You could go with a standard OBDII reader to reset the codes.)

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Hello all, just got a silver 01 996 turbo with 24k miles on it. I'm a student here in Denver, CO and work with retirement accounts. 996 has some mods (chipped, caged, gt3 buckets, schroth 5 pt). I have a 04 ZX6RR for the summer and a 06 WRX for the winter.
Some random questions:
What is Porsche's silver called?
How do you check the oil?
Anyone know how to get rid of an air bag light? - The bucket seat install was not done correct. For my past cars, I could find DIY's to use resistors to plug into the seat harness's, but google does not help me much for this car...
tasty
airbag light can come from not hooking the passenger seatbelt back into the system from the seat install. it could also be the passenger recepticle or you can search Renntech dot org for more reasons.

there is a dipstick still in 01 so you can also check it cold...dont fill to the top..middle is good!
shceck under the hood for an options sticker and post a pic of it..there is an options decoder on this site under the "general" tab on the far left - paint is one of the bigger font numbers IIRC
Welcome to Rennlist. I'll venture a try at some answers:
1) Looks like your car is "Arctic Silver"
2) Check the oil through the dash computer. You access it through the lower handle on the left side of your steering wheel. Car likes to be cold to check the oil.
3) Personally, I purchased a Durametric ECU reader ($300?) for my 964, 996 and 997. (UPDATE: You could go with a standard OBDII reader to reset the codes.)
Rennlisters - correct me if I am wrong...

Hmmm tough questions, but the red seatbelts in the intro is worthy of a somewhat serious response. Turbo's don't hang out much in the 996 NA forum BTW.
996 answers:
Seal grey or Arctic silver. Of course there is GT silver, and also you can have your 996 painted ANY color you want!!!
Dipstick or OBC (on board computer) to check the oil level. OH, and RTFM. LOL.
