Cut it open, see what the problem is (probably a broken metal pillar) I took mine out and noticed that the other pillar was starting to get loose so i reinforced it by welding it.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, There are some rattle sound on the right muffler & the mechanic say it cannot be repaired, I'll have to change a new one. Has anyone opened up the sport muffler or able to repair one? Thanks for looking.

POST 2Original post

The rattle could either be the actuator that opens and closes the flap or a broken weld inside the muffler. Both are commonly known problems. The broken weld can be fixed, but you will have to cut the outside can.

POST 3Original post

Yea, I am getting the same rattle in the right side only too. I tried to hold the vacuum actuator while I banged on it to duplicate the noise. It does seem to be coming from inside the muffler. If I do anything, I will just mod my stock exhaust with a bypass pipe instead of trying to mess around with the PSE's.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, they told me it is the broken weld inside the box. The exhaust welder who would not dare to open the box, they are afraid that there are some spring inside which they are not able to fix. Are there any springs or they are all welded blades inside the box ? Anyone opened the sport muffler before?

POST 5Original post

There shouldn't be any springs inside. Check out: www.youtube.com and type "fabspeed 996". There is a good video that shows the inside of the OEM muffler. Good luck.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Jeneric, went through the video, very informative !!

POST 7Original post

I have a "chirping" some may call it a rattling noise in my driver side PSE muffler. It only happens once the engine is warmed up and is intermittant......

POST 8Original post

I cut open my left muffler... Cut where it's thinner, and have atleast 2 rotary saw blades cause they wear out fast. Cut it open, see what the problem is (probably a broken metal pillar) I took mine out and noticed that the other pillar was starting to get loose so i reinforced it by welding it. Then weld it back well and TA DA!! Good luck man!
