Ive read several forums on how to find the culprit, such as disconnected vac lines, or failed parts.
Leading evidence: 'Disconnect vac lines, or failed parts' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Disconnect vac lines, or failed parts' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I replaced components that were broken & leaking, and proactively replaced a couple components while I was in there because I didn't want to do it again.

The carpet tray hasn't been out since I replaced the hydraulic struts for the roof, maybe 6 months ago.

Suggestion
It's not hard, just remove the alternator and you will have enough room to replace the leaking component.

To the best of my ability i tested the electric changeover valves, the regular change over valve next to the vac canister, the air pump, and traced vac lines, but could not find anything not functioning or disconnected.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Recently thru the p0411 p0410 cel. Ive read several forums on how to find the culprit, such as disconnected vac lines, or failed parts. i did not know how to test the vac canister as its difficult to get to. Maybe this could be the culprit? Is there any way to remove it without pulling the intake manifold? Ive seen threads saying you have to pull the intake manifold but it looks like you have a decent amount of room if you remove the alternator.
curious as to everyones thoughts on what I should do from here. It takes a long time to get to some of the bits in towards the back. I want to get rid of the CEL. Maybe delete it all? And you can program out the CEL, correct?
i remember reading a cell where a guy was getting these codes and he had an operational air pump, but it wasnt pushing enough air. He replaced it and the CEL went away. Maybe this is me.
running out of motivation to work on this.
thanks
U can tune out the sai with a ROW tune but all it does is not run the test so the readyiness stays unset. If u have an emmisions test it may cause u to fail.
U can swap changeover valves if u r unsure of your test and see if the fault moves to the other system. A vacuum gauge t-ed into the syayem is a good way to see if its working. There is also the valve where the sai pressure tube hits the engine. That has to open too.
I doubt its the accumulator as u would see failures in the fuel regulator and resonance valve if there was an over all vac issue.
I have a mk1 sai pump i can let u borrow if helps with your tests.
when you say swap changeover valves, are you saying to replace all of them with new ones? When you say see if the fault moves to another system, what other system are you referring to?
thank you,,,Ill let you know if I test this part and need it
You need to do a smoke test to find the culprit. The earlier system with the SAI pump visible outside the engine is easier to deal with. The upgraded version where they hide the SAI pump under the intake manifold is much more difficult to repair. Which one do you have?
All the change over valves r the same. Swap the valve for the resonance flap and the sai and see if it works?
A smoke test will tell u if u have a vac leak up to the change over valve. U can by pass the change over valve by just connecting the 2 rubber connector and test the full system.
U also need to test part 11. It should open and close with vacuum.
Well then, do a smoke test, you will find out where the vacuum leak is, and then replace that line. It's not hard, just remove the alternator and you will have enough room to replace the leaking component.
I concur with Yelcab. It's not hard to get eyes on a lot of those components and replace them once you remove the alternator. I chased these codes for a while too and ended up replacing a lot of the vacuum lines, the check valve, the shutoff valve and the vacuum canister. The valves get pretty gummed up with crud and the vacuum lines get brittle and easily crack with age and heat. My vacuum canister also had a tiny crack in it, contributing to the problem. I replaced components that were broken & leaking, and proactively replaced a couple components while I was in there because I didn't want to do it again.
Get a load of this. I'm trouble shooting another problem with the rear spoiler and had to take the carpet tray out of the back. The carpet tray hasn't been out since I replaced the hydraulic struts for the roof, maybe 6 months ago. Been driving the car plenty between then and now with no CELs.
Lo and beerhold, look what I found. How does this happen.
Welp since thats for the sai pump i guess u didnt have power to it and it wasnt running? Vibration, loose connection, bad roads..... who knows. Bend the tabs in a litlle with a thin screwdriver amd make sure its tight
Crazy $hit happens sometimes. This is a 1yr/old sending unit. Looks like it caught fire but it didnt and i have yet to find a mechanic that has been able to explain it.
