Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I want to change out the upper center dash plastic. Popped off the sides, removed the buttons, popped off the AC control surround, but then I notice I have to remove the AC control unit & stereo head unit.
I'm not sure what to expect when I do this. Will I have to unplug them both in order to remove them from the dash plastic? Do they have enough cable legnth to let me pull them out far enough to see the back? Should I NOT do this? Or is it pretty simple?
Thanks...
I have a 99, which has gray, sparkly plastic. So I bought the matte black plastic bits off of eBay, and want to upgrade the interior of the car with it...
I did the same thing. What you want to do is pry off the bezzle with a pic or something around the ac unit. Then you will see 4 philips screws you unscrew them and then the sucher slides out. Note how the retainers are, you can figure it out when it's out but whatever. Concerning the head unit, you can cheat. YOu are supposed to use the removal tools but you really don't need to. Just remove the ac first. You got the sides off and have removed the switches from the sides as well as the cigarette lighter receptacle. Use a butter knife for removing the switches and I have a pic of how to remove the cigarette receptical if you want it as it's tricky by looking at it! In any event remove the 4 torx screws and then the whole thing slides out. It will take a little force as the radio is wedged in there nicely but it comes out just take your time. I like to use the tape opening to grab but be gentle. after it's out a bit you can remove the radio connectors from the back. If you not on both sides of the radio are brass colored retaining tabs. Push them in and then remove the radio. Viola. Put in new one in reverse. Have fun. I did mine like 3 times because of messing with the radio stuff added bekker rca out changed wiring harness adapter for amp etc. I have carbon in now also. my second carbon center as the first was too greenish!
