Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
Since I have the CDR23 head unit it's not nearly as easy to navigate the ipod so I keep it in the rear center console and adjust manually unless I have a playlist I like and then I can use the head unit to go FWD and BACK songs.
Leading evidence: 'Install today' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). I have the PCM so it basically uses the CDC controls.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I finally got the darn thing installed today after getting the Yazaki adapter. It went smoothly and without drama.
The amp has unswitched power running to it so I just tapped in right there. Thick brown wire and thick red and brown wire. I don't even need to get my head unit programmed to recognize the CDR. It came right up. Sounds great.
I located my equipment a little differently than LVDell. I have the extension to run the ipod connector to the storage in the rear console, but thats for another day. This is a spare ipod that can stay in the frunk.
It works different depending n the head unit you have. I have the PCM so it basically uses the CDC controls. Disk 1 is playlists, Disk 2 is Artists, etc. It works pretty well. You just navigate with the jog dial on the right of the PCM and it's a little like the idrive that was on my BMW.
I just realized you have a 99 (Cassette player should have been a hint). It only works with the MOST optical wiring. Not sure if the 99 has that.
There is a way to keep your CDC working however. I didn't look into it since I don't have a CDC.
MOST didn't come on board until model year 2003.
Nice install! I would have located my ipod in the front like you as well if I had PCM. Since I have the CDR23 head unit it's not nearly as easy to navigate the ipod so I keep it in the rear center console and adjust manually unless I have a playlist I like and then I can use the head unit to go FWD and BACK songs.
Mine is in the frunk too. I just have a 32 gig flash drive plugged in. Just don't by a cheap flash drive. I had an issues use a cheapy. Name brand one works great.
