Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

27 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Stock Tail Lights $9.99 for this at Michael's Finished Product with a couple of coats of clearcoat I could have bought these at Suncoast for $449.95 http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...7tt2_lightsold

POST 2Original post

I did the same on my honda; however, I removed the paint because it became very dull over time. You might be able to buff yours since they're clear coated (in order to bring back the gloss). I ended up having a tint shop apply red film instead.

POST 4Original post

What color is projected now by your backup lights?

POST 6Original post

if you think back to the days when cars only had red taillights the blinkers were red... its legal... fronts however need to be amber and do the back up lights do anything at all other than alert other people you are backing up? I doubt you would ever get a ticket for that? Might not be the safest from the perspective of avoiding being hit while backing up

POST 7Original post

Ah, the ignorance of the law excuse Seriously though. My question is serious in wanting to know if turn signal marker are required to be yellow and reverse white.

POST 8Original post

Revers lights need to be white. The turn signals have to be either red or amber for the rear and amber only for the front.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The backup lights are still very bright, but with a red cast. I started to notice how many cars out there have all red tail lights. Take notice there's more than you realize and thats from the factory. The clear coat gave them a nice high gloss finish and I applied about a dozen coats of wax today so they are smooth as glass. We'll see how they hold up. I did not like the look of the factory lights and I just don't have $350-$500 to blow on new tail lights. I thought I'd just share an inexpensive solution with you guys. I'm still stuck with these, can't afford to buy new ones...any other suggestions?

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Dell, it's never going to happen. For one I do like them and I will never have the $$$ for wheels as long as I am paying child support.

POST 14Original post

Sounds like you have more important things in your life than a Porsche. I'm going to keep my mouth shut and move on.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Don't sweat it Dell, the child support is what it is. I'm lucky I found this car last year with low miles on it. In person it looks and drives like a one year old car. Money is tight, thank God its paid for. I love the car and I'm always looking for inexpensive ways to make it better. I've done quite a bit of stuff to it for peanuts. The headlights bother me.

POST 17Original post

I don't sweat it. Hang in there. Sounds like things can only get better. Who gives a damn about chrome wheels and orange headlights. You're taking care of your kid and have a Porsche in the garage. If that the starting point life is going to get good in the coming years

POST 18Original post

Paint the orange strip silver (to match inner housing).

POST 19Original post

I personally don't know what the fuss is about with the orange headlight strips. They never looked look that bad to my eye...but then again I'm in the minority group that prefers the MkI headlights over the MkII. They way it's going, the strip of orange is getting to be a rare sight. It will eventually be covetted as a vintage or classic feature, and guys will start backdating. Mark my words. Chrome wheels on the other hand.....your point on priorities is well taken and most importantly if *you* like them then those of us that don't can just &^%c right off. The white looks better than great. Easily the best colour for a 996 IMO.

I'm pretty sure each states laws vary. I'm in La. & ours, you probably have to have the (beep, beep) horn like the forklifts do.

POST 21Original post

State laws are based on the US DOT and US Motor Vehicle safety Standards. Taken from PART 571--FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARDS--Table of Contents Subpart B--Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards Sec. 571.108 Standard No. 108; Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment. I think the all red tail-lights look great! Years ago I used to have a Lexus IS300, and always admired the cars that had a properly painted set of tails. You are right about many car companies using all-red tails. But if that is the case, they always have separate (clear) reverse lights mounted elsewhere.

POST 25Original post

The way Porsche does is is through optics and prisms. It appears all red to you but the reversing lights come out white, as they should. All you have done is spray a clear red coating over your lenses, effectively blocking out the white light--not a wise thing to do in the interest of just looking good.
