Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

30 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Here's a question: if you had to teach one thing to a new 996 owner (like me), and one thing only, what would it be? Besides That's clear.

POST 2Original post

No matter what condition the car is in or the dealer history or the great PPI, your purchase budget should include $5000 in the bank for the first year. For unplanned, unexpected, or unnecessary (Mods that is) expenses that you are likely to encounter. These are wonderful high performance AutoBahn cruisers but they are still 6 to 12 year old cars. Murphy's Law... if something can go wrong - it will - (just wait an see...)

POST 3Original post

These cars are very sensitive to tire pressure and alignment.

POST 4Original post

My one thing would be: You can push this car harder than you think. Enjoy it in the twisties... it's an amazing vehicle...

POST 5Original post

one thing....go to the track before you change anything

POST 6Original post

dont buy a 2500psi pressure washer to wash your car...

POST 7Original post

Don't get wound too tightly about everything you read on the internet. Drive your car and enjoy it.

POST 9Original post

Be engaged all the time when driving. This is not a camry.

POST 10Original post

let the car warm up before putting your foot in it!!

POST 11Original post

Smile when you drive your Porsche and enjoy all that it has to offer.

POST 13Original post

If you haven't taken the car to a DE event you don't fully appreciate it yet... -Shawn

POST 14Original post

Don't let the car be a garage queen and driver her like you stole it!

POST 15Original post

DIY's will save you money and will make you learn about your car.

POST 16Original post

Don't accelerate hard (from a standstill) while making a left or right turn; I used to have so much fun breaking the rear loose on my e46m.

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 8517513

I love doing that! just gotta be careful.

POST 18Original post

don't attempt to wash your headlights while driving above 25 and if you do look for a turn-a-round to pick up the silver cap......or caps....

POST 19Original post

don't let the foo in the WRX egg you on too easy to lose your license

POST 20Original post

Don't try to fill the gas tank by the fuel gauge reading. Just stop at the first click off. The guages read low on a lot of the cars. Keep an eye on the rear tires inside tread since it burns out first and will get you in a lot of trouble in slick conditions.

^This ^and that.

POST 23Original post

Redline it at least once every time you drive it. A reminder that you bought the right car.

I looked at a car when I was searching, and the guy actually told me it had never been driven in the rain. First thing I did when I got in the car was turn on the wipers to see if they worked. LOL!

POST 25Original post

...don't eat yellow snow! Oh you wanted to know something about the car itself?!? Well I also agree with taking it to the track to see what it is truly capable of. It will amaze you.

POST 28Original post

Don't lift in a corner. This mostly applies to wet conditions but it applies to those cases where you are not driving smart or get caught unawares in the dry also. If you do find that you are into it absolutely too hot, then a little lift should tighten your turn like right f'n now. Be prepared to ease back into that throttle and maybe even apply a little opposite lock and you might save yourself both dollars and embarassment. Slow in fast out...that's the Porsche mantra.

POST 29Original post

Get thee to a DE. +1 on rear tires. watch INSIDE. this car eats 'em. drive it or lock it. if you keep in unlocked in your garage it will drain the battery in 48 hrs. surfer161

POST 30Original post

The 996 is a true porsche 911... love the flat 6 it's what defines the 911.
