I'm not sure but I always figured it was the plastic lid that covers the vanity lights and mirror that just pops off, not the sun visor.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I believe that there is something wrong with my antenna amplifier and I need to remove the A-Pillar to check it out. I have found numerous threads on how to perform the feat, but I have a question to how the vanity mirror lights function. In all of the threads, the first step is to remove the sunvisor by just pulling it off. I get this, but I don't understand where the vanity mirror lights gets its power as no one has mentioned anything about any wires. Where/how does the sunvisor vanity mirror light up, where does it get its power from? I am confused, can someone help me? Thanks

POST 2Original post

I'm not sure but I always figured it was the plastic lid that covers the vanity lights and mirror that just pops off, not the sun visor. The shaft that the visor is on might be a power source if there is an insulated pole in the center so that the center is positive and outside is negative. MI'd read it again to be sure its the visor that just pops off not the lid covering the lights and mirror.

Yes, if there are wires. From everythimg I've read their are no wires and you just pull the visor off the mount. Then you undo the hex bolts holding the mount. Never any mention of wires in any of the posts here or on renntech.

POST 5Original post

Look at the end that snaps into the clip at the center. The one that holds the visor out of your way. See if you can figure out how the light goes out when you unsnap it to push the visor to the side window. I never tried to "JUST PULL it off" I took the mounting screws out of the pivot.

I didn't realize the vanity light would go out if I unhook and move the visor to the side. I am new to the car, but my first guess is that each side of the visor is an electrical conductor. The pivot arm and snap, when unsnapped, you are breaking the circuit and the light goes out. I will investigate further and let you know after I have it apart.

POST 7Original post

Yes, no wires. I had both sides off; left for the Remote Range TSB, and the right for the antenna booster. Somehow they work when you put them back. There's not much you can do for the radio antenna booster besides making sure it has a good ground. I think the antenna just sucks. I gave in an bought an iPod. Btw. You don't have to slide the sun visor off the shaft. Just pop the plastic cover and remove the screws (Allen wrench if I remember correctly). The whole unit comes off in one piece.

POST 8Original post

The contacts are both in the header clip. So no wires in the pivot. I found this out when I was looking for power to hookup my homelink door opener.
