The other thing is the lower control arms have to be upgraded to GT-3 parts to get enough camber which is what I have run into which kept all the parts I ordered in a box up in the garage until the spring when I can afford to get everything done all at once the right way.

Suggestion

Many people with early 996's have had brackets welded in to stiffen the chassis when running PSS9/10's so I question the GT-3 install which is known to be stiffer then the X-74.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey guys, I'm selling my '99 coupe and was told by the PO that it had the GT3 suspension installed - but I never did anything to confirm it. It's definitely a modified suspension - lowered. How do I tell if I actually have the GT3 stuff. Will I have to bring it to a dealer and lift it up? I have a buyer lined up and he is asking what that includes. PO claims it's "shocks and springs from a GT3". Is this a common upgrade? Factory upgrade or aftermarket? Thanks a bunch. Mark

The full kit included not just the shocks and springs but different sway bars front and back, different control arms and different drop links and there might be bushing differences. If the option (and I know it wasn't offered in 99 as there were NO street GT'3 offered in 1999) isn't listed on the sticker under the front hood then most likely it's aftermarket. Therefore any updates you have are aftermarket. First year GT3's (non race cars) were first made in 2003. Many people claim GT3 suspension and it comes down to just springs and shocks and then they went cheap from there... The H&R's that came with GT3's have been cloned many times over by other companies. People then start talking about GT3 parts as a generic term instead of the real orignal factory pieces. You have to be careful you don't over pay for stuff on cars from people claiming factory pieces that are really something else.

There was a GT3 in 1999-2001 ROW 360hp engine so his car may have a OEM optional suspension

POST 4Original post

ROW MKI GT3 existed. Here's the 1999. Your car could have these OEM pieces on it.

POST 5Original post

Page 73 of The Essential Companion: "GT-3's were only available road registered cars in model years 2000 and 2001 (prior to Jan 1 2001) for the rest of the world (ROW) market only. They were not permitted to be exported for normal road use in the USA BECAUSE THEY DID NOT COMPLY WITH SAFETY AND EMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS. So it might be possible that someone ordered *some* OEM parts and put them on a 99 C2 or as I found out while looking at a large number of cars when looking for mine; people would make all sorts of claims for 'factory' options that simply could not be backed up with the purchase order sheet or the option sticker. When I was looking at one car the guys was telling me how much his upgraded factory suspension option cost and when I get under the car they were clearly stock struts with aftermarket lowering coils. The only other thing different was the TechART sticker on the sway bar which was sort of a big giveaway. I'm not saying he doesn't have some GT 3 coil overs and such - but they had no option code for this in 1999 that I can find. There was the X74 sport option but Loren at Renntech has said, "X74 is not recommended for MY99 cars as the chassis was made stiffer in MY2002." Many people with early 996's have had brackets welded in to stiffen the chassis when running PSS9/10's so I question the GT-3 install which is known to be stiffer then the X-74. The other thing is the lower control arms have to be upgraded to GT-3 parts to get enough camber which is what I have run into which kept all the parts I ordered in a box up in the garage until the spring when I can afford to get everything done all at once the right way.

POST 7Original post

Suspension is the same from '99 to '04 NBs. You can swap a MKII GT3 suspension into a '99 with no problems.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I guess I just need to get it in the air and see what parts are on there. Sounds like it is possible to have them, but not likely. Thanks guys. Very helpful once again. I will share this info with my potential buyer.

I'm assuming just the shocks and springs were changed out. GT3 should have a different part number. I'm too lazy to look it up...

POST 10Original post

I had a set of 2005 GT3 coilovers and the part numbers that were on on the dampers are as follows: 996 343 041 95 996 333 051 95
