Gmaps on my blackberry sucks, but the iPhone apps and interface is as good as the Garmins I've used, albeit smaller.

I have 2004 Turbo 911 that has the Porsche DVD (only one DVD) based Nav, I "think" there was a change mid year from the cd to the DVD based system.

wow really then you must have the "First Set" of CD's that were Issued with PCM 2, there was an Update in 2004 which had 3 CD's and in 2008 there was a final Update with 8 CD's...

There's one question I keep coming back to - and this is stopping me from going after market: The PSM apparently uses GPS for stabilization so I'm not sure if this or any other systems are affected by removing the PCM.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It's still not perfect, but it is certainly better.
I'm looking at a 2004 C2 with Nav in there currently. I'm assuming the maps are way out of date. Can they be updated at all? If not, can this unit be pulled and a standard radio and filler be put in the car? I really don't need the nav, just looking for options.
Thanks
A 2004 should have a CD-based nav system - PCM 2.0 (as opposed to the newer DVD-based nav system - PCM 2.1).
Update CDs were made available in 2008, and you can get them at your dealer. We've got them in our Cayenne, and they are quite good - a vast improvement over the original 2004 CDs.
your 04 Cayanne is CD Based, i think it was 05 or 06 they switched to DVD...

iPhone.
Google maps rocks and is probably always the most up to date thing at any given moment. Gmaps on my blackberry sucks, but the iPhone apps and interface is as good as the Garmins I've used, albeit smaller.
I went to the highly recommended Car Tunes in Atlanta (Roswell Rd). That was the 2 DIN unit they had that did everything. Basically two different versions of the Kenwood.
Has GPS, Bluetooth, iPod, USB, DVD,CD including video, backup camera, HD/Sat Radio, and more.
It had good reviews so I went with it. That shop did not sell the Pioneer...so the decision was easier....which Kenwood?
As a side note...
I still have the original PCM 1. 6 Disc CD Changer, Nav Disc Reader, 2 DIN Stereo/Nav, ready to go. PM me if interested. :-)

There's definitely an update for the Nav. I just bought an '04 and the previous owner can't find the map CD's. I talked to a local Porsche dealer and they indicated it would cost around $300 to get the CD's and update my system. I think at this point I'm going to opt for an after-market option because I want bluetooth and iPod as well. (Had my 986 updated and love it).
There's one question I keep coming back to - and this is stopping me from going after market: The PSM apparently uses GPS for stabilization so I'm not sure if this or any other systems are affected by removing the PCM. I know there's data transferred to the PCM in terms of temperature and the like so am hesitant to get an aftermarket until I know. Any help from outside would be appreciated.
