Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I recently posted about my dad's 2002 cabriolet, leaving a huge smoke cloud. Just wanted to say, you guys were right, it was the Air Oil Separator $1600 repair at porsche, better than IMS :P thanks!

POST 2Original post

Always nice when its not as bad as it could of been.

POST 4Original post

Just curious, how many miles were on his Porsche when the AOS failed? Glad it's fixed.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

AOS Died at 85k, the car lived in Florida for a time and then frozen chicago which may have accelerated the issue. First warning was a smoke cloud one morning on start up, then about a month later, a smoke screen out of no where :P

POST 7Original post

Thanks, I wonder if it's age related or miles regarding an AOS failure.

POST 8Original post

Any chance of modding the AOS so that it could act as a smoke screen generator with a flip of a toggle switch

POST 10Original post

I just did this on my 2002 coupe, took me under 2 hours. I probably would've charged under $400 including the replacement part...

POST 11Original post

Ahmet, Did you go in over the top or from the bottom?

POST 12Original post

I went from the bottom, and it was a pain as expected. I wouldn't recommend an inexperienced DIY to try going from the bottom, especially w/out a lift. That said, if you're comfortable working in confined spaces, and having to feel things around, shouldn't take more than 45 mins honestly...

POST 13Original post

I tried to do mine from the bottom when I did the clutch but just could not get to the back bolt on the AOS. Is there a trick to reaching the bolts? I will try again this winter.

POST 14Original post

You just have to feel around for it. I wouldn't try going from the bottom w/out a lift. The bolt wasn't the hard part for me, it was working w/the clamps/fittings.
