Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Need to change drive stubs, bolts, seals, and the rest is simple measure, check, and bolt in.
Leading evidence: 'Replace drive stubs, bolts, seals, and the rest is simple measure' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). I've heard good thinks about the Giken and I've run a Kazz and liked that diff a lot too.

Of course the Guard GT is my favorite and I wouldn't run without one....
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I thought some 996 owners would enjoy this photo from last weekends club race at Hallet. Spec 996 builds running in GTB1, we should hear from PCA soon about having a 996 class for 2011.
My to do list: LSD, JRZ suspension (upgrade from PSS9s), front spoiler & rear wing. But as always the biggest gain will be to improve my skills behind the wheel.
Great looking picture David.
David and Bryan know this, but for everyone else who may not, there is an official Spec 996 wing sold by Getty Design. It's very similar to the cup car wing. I hope to have one on my car very soon. Here's a picture of one.
Will you be at TWS this weekend ? If so talk to me. You probably don't want the Quaiffe, and the Giken works well but takes a little adjustment to driving style, once adjusted to it, it's fast.
You need a diff that can help stabilize your car under breaking and into a corner. The Quaife diff does NOT have that capability.
I've heard good thinks about the Giken and I've run a Kazz and liked that diff a lot too. They're priced slightly less than the Giken. Of course the Guard GT is my favorite and I wouldn't run without one....
David,
We met at MSR a while back and you gave me a ride in your 996. I have a practically new AST 5100 suspension for the 996. AST is getting a ton of good press lately and they're the new spec suspension in the Continental Tire Challenge (BimmerWorld cars). You would have local support (in Plano) and it's fully upgradable to remote reservoir 2-way or 3-way. I can give you a lot more info if you're interested.
It's late, I'm tired and that sounds correct for the Giken, it's the G50 one that actually does fit although Giken's product info doesn't show it for that application. A few of us in the country have installed it in this application (996 & 986 6 speed) and it works fine. Need to change drive stubs, bolts, seals, and the rest is simple measure, check, and bolt in. - Boy I made that sound so simple.
Change in driving, well, when you transition from braking to accell it feels and acts like an open diff. at first. This actually helps rotation and doesn't push as much as a factory or GT diff allowing the car to get in the corner faster. Now the trick after that is to put your foot in it, like fully committed foot in it, then it hooks up and goes like a spool. The problem that most have is fully committing when the diff doesn't feel hooked up. A few seasoned drivers/racers have driven it and been very uninspired, only applying partial throttle which results in a tail waving car control drill. But once you get the hang of it and commit to it, it's pretty fast.
The big benefit with the Giken is less routine maintenance. While the others require regular rebuilds to keep them "fresh" and operating at 100%, the Giken should last at least 3 times as long between rebuilds.
Personally, I like both the GT and the Giken, I actually have cars with both, I sell both, make the same $$$$ off of both, so no biased opinions here.
Both have pros and cons and I feel they both have there place with different people depending on your needs and wants.
As for the Torsens or Viscous, lift a wheel, like bumping a curb and your free wheeling. Not what I want on a road course.
FYI the Spec996 class has been apporved;

D. A Spec996 class will be added for 1999 – 2004 996s with 3.4L or 3.6L engines. Its premise is allowance of relatively inexpensive modifications only, or those which improve safety or durability of parts. Tires and rims are restricted.
