Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I need to change part #6, the vent elbow, and part way through the 2002 model year Porsche changed the design from a y shaped vent with a check valve to the atmosphere to an elbow with no atmosphere vent.

I would like to have a P/N confirmation for part 7 and 8 as I would like to change for a new bolt while Im there.

The problem is I know a motorsport AOS has been installed, the coolant line has been replaced but I cant see if theses vent lines were changed at the same time so I assume they were not replaced...

It seems that I have an access with the air box out but I would like to ask more experienced mechanic as I dont want to run into problems while changing the o-ring.

I tought it could be the cam cover, the plug sitting right above or the oil pressure sensor (I have to change the sensor..) but I figure out the leak came from a plate (Part 6 in diag.) that seems to attach to the AOS vent line on the right side of the engine.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi everyone,
I was doing the spark plugs on my 02 C4S the other day and found a small oil leak near the cam cover.
No fresh oil around but you can see it leaked in the past.
I tought it could be the cam cover, the plug sitting right above or the oil pressure sensor (I have to change the sensor..) but I figure out the leak came from a plate (Part 6 in diag.) that seems to attach to the AOS vent line on the right side of the engine.
The line in itself doesnt seems to leak, only the flange that bolt on the engine.
I guess I can change the O-ring (Part 7 in diag) under the flange just to make sure I stop the leak if it still present.
I would like to have a P/N confirmation for part 7 and 8 as I would like to change for a new bolt while Im there.
P/N for the o-ring: 99970715440
P/N for the bolt: 90037816309
I also would like to know the torque spec for bolt No.8?
It seems that I have an access with the air box out but I would like to ask more experienced mechanic as I dont want to run into problems while changing the o-ring.
So anything special I need to know before dismantling?
I guess the plastic line are brittle and can break easily. Should I try to un-hook the hose and unbolt the flange or simply unbolt the flange with the hose connected and change the o-ring?
I can post pictures tonight just for visual confirmation.
Thanks!
Hey Bill,
So you suggest to change the vent line No4 with a new flange No6?
Or just the flange with a new O-ring?
The vent line is routed on top of the engine and seems to be a PITA to change!
The problem is I know a motorsport AOS has been installed, the coolant line has been replaced but I cant see if theses vent lines were changed at the same time so I assume they were not replaced...
Definitely the O-Rings and at least have a new vent line on hand in case it cracks. They get very brittle and crack if you look at it wrong. Yes it's a pain...
Replace the entire tube. These are cracking, and causing a lot of vacuum leak driven fuel trim/ enrichment issues. These days if you just touch those conduits, they will crack. We replace them on all engines.
Replacing it with the engine in the car is beyond a bitch to accomplish.
I need to change part #6, the vent elbow, and part way through the 2002 model year Porsche changed the design from a y shaped vent with a check valve to the atmosphere to an elbow with no atmosphere vent. The cross engine vent line is different for this later style line. It appears to be the same shape but the end attaching to the vent valve/elbow (#6) is 35mm instead of 27mm. Do you know if it is beneficial to move to this later m96.3 version of the aos vent line and vent elbow? I'm curious why Porsche did away with the y style vent valve and moved to a 90 degree elbow with no check valve to the atmosphere.
trying to troubleshoot a vacuum leak in a '97. Newish AOS that is functioning fine (I know it is not the problem) could the AOS vent line that connects the top of the AOS to the intake / throttle body, if not properly sealed, cause a vacuum leak at low speed that would trigger a CEL? Could it happen due to an ill fitting o ring on the end of the vent line?
what CEL are u getting? Yes could be vent line but doubt it. More likely plenums installed with crimped boot. Make sure you hear a click when installing both vent lines. Smoke tester always your friend at end of day.
