Suggestion

I have done the drain and re-fill but I am not sure if I was going to embark on all the work you are about to I would be too keen for even the slightest possible chance I allowed some contaminants in during the process and hurt the motor.

Suggestion

^^^Partially agree^^^ then again, if youre really worried about the $120 (and maybe the time to get the oil) just get a fine paint strainer and pour your slightly used oil through it before putting it back in the motor.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am planning to replace my IMSB and RMS this weekend. I had recently replaced my engine oil so I don't plan to drain it. How much oil am I to expect that will be lost during the IMSB and RMS replacement?

POST 2Original post

Well i have to pull the chain tensioner so a lot. Drain the oil into a very clean container then pour it back in

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 19145230

this is most reasonable thing to perform. Thanks!

POST 4Original post

Yeah.... I don't know. Oil is pretty cheap. I have done the drain and re-fill but I am not sure if I was going to embark on all the work you are about to I would be too keen for even the slightest possible chance I allowed some contaminants in during the process and hurt the motor. For me, I would just fill it with fresh oil to the extent that was required after the work was complete.

POST 5Original post

It will cost you an extra $120 for a case of DT40, just do it.

^^^Partially agree^^^ then again, if youre really worried about the $120 (and maybe the time to get the oil) just get a fine paint strainer and pour your slightly used oil through it before putting it back in the motor. As long as its clean youre good to go. *If theres anything large and metallic left in the strainer, youre already screwed (as theres probably a bunch more already in the motor).

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

oh heck ill replace the oil and filter completely. i go thru fcp anyways i didn't notice any debri in the oil which appeared darker but translucent green. i'll stick with liquid moly green bottle. might as well replace the less than year old tranny fluid too. thanks y'all.
