Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello,
My 2002 Sports Exhaust will arrive on Friday.
Can anyone recommend a good shop to do the install in Long Island, New York?
Should I just do the work myself? Anyone have installation instructions?
Regards,
Dan
It's pretty straight forward as a muffler replacement. The most amount of time will likely be aligning the tips.
1. First raise the car enough that you can get under it (ramps are better than jack stands in this case IMHO).
2. Spray the 2 17mm nuts that are on the clamp connecting the back of the cat to the exhaust with WD40 and then loosen them up. Don't remove the bracket; just loosen it. This will allow you to push it about 2 inches towards the cat.
3. Locate the 3 13mm nuts that hold the muffler to the car (bracket). Use a 13mm socket to remove them. Not much swing room here so it might take a few minutes.
4. Rotate the muffler down and out from under the car. Looks a little tricky but it can easily be done.
5. Remove the tip after spraying it with WD 40 and then attach it loosely to the new muffler.
6. Do the reverse of number 4 and rotate the muffler up and in. Put the nuts back on but don't tighten them yet. Put the bracket back on the cat and the muffler, again don't tighten them yet.
7. At this point align the exhaust tip so that it is evenly spaced in the bumper cutout and adjust to 20mm from the bumper (see image)
8. Tighten everything down... 17 ft-lb for the 3 bracket nuts, and 22 ft-lb for the cat sleeves and exhaust tips.
9. Repeat for the other side. Test for leaks (hissing or other air noise). Test drive.
10. Enjoy a cold one!
