Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, Recently I acquired this NOS cylinder head with some BMW parts. From my research I believe this is a 996 3.6L cylinder Head (1-3). Can anyone please conform or tell me what this might be as well as approximate value? I see used for about $2500. Thank you for all your help. Bryan

POST 2Original post

Definitely what that part number (996104173DR) pulls up. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Genuine-O...3-DR/648408626

wow, you can get anything at Walmart these days. 😃

POST 4Original post

That head is not worth very much $ without the numbers matching cover and cam caps......the only thing of value is the 1/2 set of new valves , springs, retainers.... The head cover and cam caps are machine matched to that head, I can only guess how that became missing, maybe some knucklehead used them on a used head that was in a wreck?/?( would not have fit very well at all).. But yes it is for a 3.6 M96 engine...

POST 5Original post

If you have the cover and cam caps, pull those really rusty dowel pins before attempting to put them together.

You'd be surprised how many(Porsche ignorant) dismantlers sell them separately on eBay. Just selling worthless junk to unsuspecting buyers. I have also seen used parts for sale on eBay for more than a new part from Porsche.

Right !! Those rusty dowels is what made me think the cover and caps are missing. Hard to see how they would get so rusty if the caps and cover are together..

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you for the reply. I do have the cam caps but no cover....If anyone is interested let me know. I got these with some BMW parts from a friend of mine. Bryan [phone removed]
