Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use since1999 can be reused' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Tighten ( a method)' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

knowing Im probably going to have to buy a new set of bolts I went ahead and added the 5 degrees and then tightened the final bolt.

2 ...the next best method to get the desired clamp load , is to use a very low torque to crush gasket/take up slack , then use "Angle of rotation" to get the desired clamp load/stretch ( 15% to 30% accurate) called TTA

3 ..the least accurate method is to use Torque value only...( 30% to 50% acurate) ,, the reason is that 75% of the Torque is used to overcome friction of the bolt head and threads, and only 25% is used to create bolt stretch/clamp load.........so, depending on friction of the surfaces the actual bolt stretch/clamp load can vary wildy and the reason many people can break critical bolts...because micro surface finish can vary from manufacturing tool sharpness..

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Putting the #1 Head on, torquing the 11th bolt for the final time when my torque wrench freaked out, beeping and read ERROR on the screen.
I was reaching the end of the turn probably at about 55 degrees. I know it was in the beeping range as you approach the final few degrees. I pulled the battery out of the wrench reinstalled a fresh one and it started working normally.
knowing Im probably going to have to buy a new set of bolts I went ahead and added the 5 degrees and then tightened the final bolt. The max torque at the end of the 5 degrees was 56 nm and the max torque after doing the full uninterrupted 60 degree turn on bolt 12 was 65 nm.
so, should I just go ahead and order up a new set??? Thats how Im leaning but if someone has a good reason that its ok I can be swayed

There is a big "internet missinformation " and "industry wide missconception" about TTY " Torque to Yield" bolts ( a thing) and TTA "Torque to Angle" tightening ( a method) ..
I could write a book on the subject....but to put it simply...
1 .. actual measure of bolt stretch is the most accurate way to get the desired clamp load , when this is not possible ( blind whole) .....then..
2 ...the next best method to get the desired clamp load , is to use a very low torque to crush gasket/take up slack , then use "Angle of rotation" to get the desired clamp load/stretch ( 15% to 30% accurate) called TTA

The big missconception is that using a TTA / Torque to Angle method means it is a TTY/Torque to Yield bolt.....this is not true.....
I did a thread about this a while back,

..and yes the 230MM long head bolts that have been used since1999 can be reused...

Great info! Thank you!
It does bring on a follow up question
do I need to loosen everything back up and retorque? By doing so, is there any harm to the head gasket?
[QUOTE=Mdelay;18579373]
The M96 uses a MLS ( Multi-Layered Steel ) head gasket and they are high quality, If it has not yet been brought up to high temperature then there is no harm to the coating and no need the replace it....the embossed rings act like springs and are not harmed by loosening and retightening...
Since your Angle wrench freaked out on the last bolt but you only went another 5 degrees.......you haven't damaged the bolt but you need to start over completly on the sequence by loosening all bolts....
