Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

You can use a damp sponge and a very very diluted cleaner(I use Chemical Guys).

comletely shampoo and clean all carpet and leather, clean the seats, re-install the seats and clean the hadliner, (if that is even possible).

Ozone machine is definately on the list but I wan't to do a hard-core clean first.

Suggestion
Well I dont particularly like doing headliners by hand and use an air powered cleaning gun BUT in this case it would probably apply too much product and soak the liner which will stain.

Suggestion
Next is the crappy part, you cant spot clean a headliner because that one spot will be clean and everything around it wont so assume from the beginning youre doing the whole thing.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My, used 996 came with an abused interior. It looks bad and smell worse. Mostly leather with Alcantara headliner. Is it even possible to get a REAL, deep, lasting clean? The Alcantara headliner has black marks all over it and the leather seats and dash parts are just gross and dirty. Before I consider replacement, Can it be truly cleaned and restored?? Especially the Alcantara concerns me being so porous.
Alcantara part may be the tough part. If you have access to a steam cleaner that would help in deep cleaning the rest of the interior. Is there anything that's wet or moist? There could be mold in there causing the smell.
I didn't smell anything that reminded me of moisture. Slight smoke but not strong. Honestly it just smelled bad. Like 20 year old car owned by young juviniles that spilled a lot of fast food and fry sauce in it, and only cleaned it out every couple of years or more.
Ozone machine is definately on the list but I wan't to do a hard-core clean first.
You can buy Ozone in cheap canisters but I'm not sure if they are a lasting effect like the machine or if they are just a band-aid. Look up a product called "Ozium." You can slide one of those little jars underneath a seat or something. 1 of those little jars lasts about 3 months. I had to use them when I had a dead rodent behind some cabinets and I needed to get rid of the smell before I could rip 'em out.
I got new cabinets out of it at least. Look for the silver lining I suppose. The damn ozone canisters worked way better than I would have imagined is my point.
My experience is that any detailer will want to look at in person before giving you a quote. You may get some ideas if you post photos but it sounds like you need to find a local pro.
Sure but I'm just trying to get an idea. Assume worse case scenario. Remove seats.. comletely shampoo and clean all carpet and leather, clean the seats, re-install the seats and clean the hadliner, (if that is even possible). Bassically make it like new. inside.

Before you start cleaning, Id recommend brushing it with a soft brush that youd use for suede. Youll get a better assessment of how bad the stains are. Next is the crappy part, you cant spot clean a headliner because that one spot will be clean and everything around it wont so assume from the beginning youre doing the whole thing. You can use a damp sponge and a very very diluted cleaner(I use Chemical Guys). Once you complete the liner, let it dry and then brush it.
It is definitely doable. I do side work detailing. I had a smoker's 4Runner at one point and it took some work, but eventually got 99% out. You can't just stick an ozone machine in without doing anything else and expect it to work. Basically the regimen, in order, is below:
1. Lightly spray some interior cleaner on the headliner then steam clean it. You must move quickly with the steamer. You can't let it sit too long in one spot or it will melt the glue and cause sagging. Honestly, for our 4Runner, I just put a whole new headliner in. You can clean them, but I found a really good price on a new liner and it made it almost pointless to try to clean the original.
2. Take the seats out of the car. Vacuum every nook and cranny.
3. Wipe down, then steam clean the seats.
4. Shampoo the carpets
5. Steam the carpets
6. Run the ozone machine.
Don't bother with the canned ozone. It won't compare to running a full fledged machine for two hours.
Then if you have anything remaining, many detailing companies make sprays that you can spritz around the interior that will provide a nice scent, while also continuing to break down in remaining odors.
One of the biggest issues with smells is if the smell is the vents which is why ozone would be helpful. Otherwise if its that bad tearing it apart is probably your best bet. For the most part interiors don't take magic products but more so elbow grease.
