Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I got a set of tires need to determine age

POST 2Original post

Look for a 4 digit number, possibly on the other side.

POST 3Original post

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

POST 6Original post

Take a pic of the whole front of the tire so we can help you.

POST 7Original post

There will be a DOT # on both sides of the tire, but only one of them has the extra digits. The 4 digit date code is on the opposite side of the tire from your picture, flip it over

POST 8Original post

I think you just decoded the code with your answer.....

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Winner winner chicken dinner ok found it on the back side thanks y’all 4/19 So the tires are still usable

POST 10Original post

OK, I'll bite, and ask the obvious dumb question. Why do they put the damned thing on the back?

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 17859070

I don't believe they do. From what I have seen the "born date" is always on the outside of the tire. OP....you sure your looking at the correct tire side?

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 17859085

Ah! The character string is longer than I thought. So on my tires the XX XX characters are indeed on the front...thanks It's cold and raining here....hence I'm on the board chasing stuff....

Since the date code needs to be changed with a stamping plate in the mold, it is easier (cheaper) to change only one side. Cosmetically, this would create a somewhat sloppier DOT Code thus date code in the inner sidewall. Many companies now do a better job with this and the date code is included on both inner and outer sidewalls. The first series of numbers indicate the Manufacturing Plant (name/location) and an internal construction or product code. On the example above, I believe MD indicates the Michelin plant in Greenville, SC.
