Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Three months later it was installed back into the car.
Leading evidence: 'Install back into the car' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install back into the car' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. At this stage the IMSB is still serviceable, meaning it can be replaced, according to Jake.

Suggestion
Some people remove the bearing seals and allow engine oil to lubricate the bearing and have had success to some degree.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Recently bought a 2000 coupe with approx 45k on the clock, however it came with an RND engine that was installed only 3 years ago so I thought it was a good deal at the price I paid. Engine currently has 10k on it, from what I can tell its essentially the same as the current RND offering with the exception of the IMS solution (3 years ago it came just with the LN bearing), I felt all the upgraded parts should make for trouble free driving for several years to come (I hope!)
Anyone else have experience with the RND engines? Good or bad? Anything I should know?
I had my engine go south with a stage 1 IMSB failure. After much thought I elected to go the LN Engineering RND route. Mine came with the solution installed, I think they just started doing it. I have no regrets and I know it will be healthy for a very long time. At the time the UAOS did not exist and mine has an oem AOS, this spring I will install an UAOS which should make it about as bullet proof as possible. Run it hard, it really likes it. Good luck.
My understanding is stage one is when the bearing has started to shed metal into the oil system. Just loosing the grease the bearing has not failed yet. There are bearings out there that have lost the grease and are only being fed engine oil and survive. Some people remove the bearing seals and allow engine oil to lubricate the bearing and have had success to some degree. I am glad I have the LN Solution, it just wont fail and that makes me happy. Hope that helps clear it up a little.
Thanks! But stage 1 means oil has entered the bearing but no shedding of metal. At this stage the IMSB is still serviceable, meaning it can be replaced, according to Jake. At stage 2 is where metal begins to shed.

Ya, but what does that Jake guy know? Seems to me that if you pulled the seal off the bearing and allow oil to lube the bearing and go on your merry way, how is that a failure. Believe me I've had many conversations with both Jake and Charles about my car and engine before and after the rebuild. I guess if he wants to call that stage 1 he can, so there. He does know a little bit more about these engines than I do.
The preceding was all in jest, Jake is a giant volume of information which he shares freely on these forums, he and Charles helped me a great deal and I trust them.

- could you share a bit more about what the process looked like working with RND? From first contact to turning the ignition key. Cliff notes are fine, of course
Did you go with the Solution when you did your rebuild? I am the original owner of a 03, I have been watching the ISMB technology evolve over the years and finally decided to pull the trigger with the Solution, and I am glad I did. My bearing was definitely in the early stage of failure, so pulling the seals would be just a bandaid. I had no metal at the magnetic drain plug or oil filter, but a slight lateral play in the bearing when I moved the center stud side-to-side.
I was going to have a LN certified installer near me (there was only one within 200 miles) install it, but they had never done an actual customer car, so I decided to do it myself.
The process on my end was fairly simple.I had taken my car into a local shop to have the Solution installed, I would have done it but the warranty at the time would not cover my work. They found metal in the oil (yes a stage 2) and I had to make decisions. The shop spoke with FSI and LN Engineering, and the route I chose due to time was LN. LN was 3 months and FSI was a little over a year. In hindsight part of me wishes for a 4.0L, but that's water under some bridge. The engine was crated and sent off for an RND rebuild. Three months later it was installed back into the car. There were some issues with car versus engine for a while but all was sorted out and now runs perfect. I have been to 4 auto-cross's this past summer in some very high heat and engine never got hot or failed to run great. The IMSB Solution had just become standard on all RND rebuilds when mine was there, so yes I have the Solution oil fed plain bearing.
