I don't change wheels often enough to use the studs, and I can always change later, if you're going to recommend those.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.
0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Hi folks
follow on from thread here - https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum/1353149-suggestions-for-wheel-studs-and-lengths.html. it's a different topic tho.
I've gone ahead and purchased some titanium acer bolts, rather than going with studs. I already have good quality extended bolts for my factory twists and 15mm / 7mm spacers, so the ti bolts make sense, the price was right as well.
Anyway, Acer and others do warn of the possibility of zinc damaging titanium, so I need to make sure my receiving threads are clean. I've never done this, can I get a recommendation on tooling for this? Thanks, And happy father's day to us Dads.
ps
I don't change wheels often enough to use the studs, and I can always change later, if you're going to recommend those. I know rennlisters prefer studs👍
Thanks

does it matter if the tap is style;
plug, tapered or bottoming?
there seem to be three types. Thanks.
For now, 'it's lights out and away we go" in Montreal. Every year I stay I'll stop watching those pampered billionaires opening and closing their drs wings and calling it an overtake... But I'm an addict and looking forward to a ALO - HAM duel, who knows. HAM got the better at the start but we'll see there should be a decent mid field battle. And maybe an overtake or two without drs, but don't hold your breath
You don’t want to use a tap for clearing threads, use a chaser. The linked Matco is good, I have a LANG set i got a while back, use it quite often. Use oil, and clean when finished with degreaser. This is a complete kit, they sell a metric version too (lang are mostly USA made that matco looks like a lang part..):

This is the stand alone chaser:

Just a fyi if you're in a jam.
Do this to a good spare bolt or lug bolt and use it as a thread chase. Cut a few diagonal or straight 1" slots up thru the threads with a thin grinder wheel . File any burrs off before use. works very successfully to clean dirty threads maybe a little bunged up....
Also to add. A thread chaser is to clean the threads. A tap will cut or create threads. The 3 taps mentioned above will all do the same thing but the tip is shaped differently. The starter tap has much more of a taper and it threads gradually. The botom tap will give a full thread to the bottom of a blind hole. The other is a standard tap, its kinda the right tool for the right job.
in this case u dont want to cut new threads because it may weaken the surface or open the threads up and make them loose, u just want to clean them.
Thanks @dejeeper that's helpful. Your advice makes me question whether I can save some money not ordering the whole set that Aaron linked, for $100 and just get
this tap
he also recommended? False economy, I know, since I could likely use the other tools in the kit at some point. Such a simple thing to purchase and it's got my head spinning. We drove up to VIR for the races on Saturday and left here at 5am, maybe I should sleep on it. Thanks.
Haha no worries at all bro !
