Next remove the adjuster plastic cover (which is needlessly complex and should be replaced with the GT3 version).
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Didn't find a ton of detail for 996.1 front seat belt replacement on here, YouTube, or my workshop manual. I think the following steps are easiest way to proceed.
First remove the front seat. Remove the trim at the top of the B-pillar by prying up from the bottom. Next remove the adjuster plastic cover (which is needlessly complex and should be replaced with the GT3 version).
Remove the bolt holding the seat belt to the B-pillar (17mm socket). Remove the Philips head screw at the top of the B-pillar trim, and the trim piece will then come up and out. With the seat belt hanging over the side panel and its trim piece, remove the other Philips head behind the side panel trim piece (its not necessary to remove that trim piece from the side panel). It also might not be necessary to remove the speakers, but I pulled them out anyway.
Pop the side panel up and out. Remove the lower bolt holding the seat belt and retractor (17mm socket). Feed the seat belt thru the guide bracket (not necessary to remove the bracket). Remove the seat belt assembly. Now reinstall in reverse order.
While you're at it, replace the plastic adjuster upper cover with the GT3 version (996-803-541-00-01C). Its lower profile, less likely to make noise, and damn cheap (currently only $2.66 from Sunset vs $89.75 for the standard part).
Now for seat belt compatibility. 996.2 seat belts can be used in a 996.1, but not the other way around. In fact both non-GT3 996.1 (996-803-033-04) and 996.2 (996-803-033-02) seat belts are currently superceded by same part (997-803-033-05-A23). This also means that the Riviera Blue GT3 RS belts can be used in a 996.1, and they happen to be significantly cheaper (currently only $195 each from Sunset) than the other colored seat belt options.
Riviera blue belt PNs are 996-803-033-91 and 996-803-034-91. Not sure what 964/993 use, but these are the 996.2 versions with the pyro charge (which doesn't get used in the 996.1).
