Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Replace from stock' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace from stock' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Replacing the Imsb as a wear item doesnt really seem that bad compared to others.
Replace oil and doing regular maintenance no problem until now

Suggestion
I have boosted M96 since 2011, 20,000 miles, I been changing oil and doing regular maintenance no problem until now .

You may be right assuming the owner changes the oil frequently and often.

Id be curious if they ran a new m96 motor and a 3.0/3.2 motor simultaneously under similar conditions on the road, which would give less issues over 200k with proper maintenance.

When I was putting together motor ideas to try to reach my power goals while keeping replacement cost down - the 2nd place option was to use turbo charged boxster motors.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

LN Engineering posted the following on their Facebook page:
So I am just going to leave this here. I can't wait to see the mayhem these sorts of creations would make.
I think if done properly the mayhem will/would be fairly limited. LNE/Bilt Racing has plenty of experience with all things M96 so if I were so inclined to insist on adding a turbo, they would be a shop Id trust to do it. I would imagine it will be expensive
When I was putting together motor ideas to try to reach my power goals while keeping replacement cost down - the 2nd place option was to use turbo charged boxster motors. The boxster motors are cheap and easy install. Turbo it to make 350-400 WHP and when it blows up, just throw another cheap engine in, at the cost of the boxster motor, you could do this many, many times before approaching the cost of a high HP 911 M96 rebuild.
A very highly respected Boxster racer thought that the motors could be run up to 350HP relatively reliably.
Main reasons I am not going this route 1. turbo system complexity and heat management (not a big consideration for a street car IMO) 2. Power limitations, 350 is good but I want more.
THE replacement for displacement, I say boost away !
I mean it's idea for big boost but low boost applications and the stock(albeit high) compression wouldn't be too bad if you have access to higher octane fuels. I've been reading up on the VF Supercharger for a while now and think that's the most HP I'd consider for a 2950lb car, I kinda wish HKS or Rotex made a builder's kit for their systems. There's a company out of the Netherlands(I think) that has a Rotex kit for a 996 but very little info on them and it's extremely expensive.
We all know how the M96 can potentially fail.
1. Imsb
2. AOS
3. Bore scoring
4. Oil Starvation (track related)
5. Overheating (track related)
We now have solid fixes for each.
1. Imsb - LN retro or solution
2. AOS - UAOS
3. Bore Scoring - change your oil min 2x a year plus many other suggestions made by FSI and LN.
4. Oil Starvation - UIDS with UAOS track w/ extra quart of oil.
5. Overheating - UAOS w/ extra quart of oil, 3rd radiator, and soon to be LN oil cooling kit.
So the question is, what additional stress is put on the M96 engine with a turbo or super charger and what additional solutions are needed to mitigate the risk of grenading the engine. We also have to ask if it's worth it knowing that a rebuild may be needed sooner than later in addition to the costs of the turbo/supercharger kit.
Just thinking out loud.
Better chance of seeing 200k than any of this stuff happening (not including track which Ill leave to the experts).
Id be curious if they ran a new m96 motor and a 3.0/3.2 motor simultaneously under similar conditions on the road, which would give less issues over 200k with proper maintenance.
I bet we might be surprised.
Im no car expert but I do read excellence each month and am aware that each generation of 911s seem to have costly issues. Replacing the Imsb as a wear item doesnt really seem that bad compared to others.
You may be right assuming the owner changes the oil frequently and often. Too many knuckleheads not changing their oil and wondering why they got a problem.
I have a weird way of looking at it. Most of us bought the car with the understanding the engine
might
fail, so whether it fails at X miles NA or Boosted... you're still going to have to potentially rebuild it at some point if you keep the car long enough AND drive it enough.
I have boosted M96 since 2011, 20,000 miles, I been changing oil and doing regular maintenance no problem until now . Hoping it will be long miles before i need to rebuilt the engine. 2000 millennium with 46,000 miles.
Its TPC turbo kit They install it fore me. I want to have more power from my engine gives me smiles every time I drive. Car runs and drives perfectly.
Power will kick in after 3000 rpm. I don't have dyno chart but produce over 400 hp to wheels and some where around 360 torq . They tell me do all the maintenance on time change oil every 6 months , I don't track my car I don't think it's good idea with stock engine.
