So, while replacing the stereo would probably have worked - it turned out to indeed be the 10A fuse on the back of the deck that had blown as well as the main fuse.

Since it is a fairly new unit with Blue Tooth, good Nav, etc, and $3000 + to replace I sent it to Becker US in NJ.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

2003 996. BOSE stereo will not turn on. No response at the power switch, eject button is non op...nothing. It did work fine last fall, then it was parked for 6 months, battery did not go flat. Car was started (not by me) and thats when th stereo would not wake up. Checked fuses at D8 (radio) and D9 (sound), both are 15A. The D9 fuse was blown. Replaced that fuse, still nothing on the switch. Dead. Any ideas guys? Is there a fuse on the deck as well? Thanks

POST 2Original post

If this is the Bose PCM double-DIN unit, it may have an internal failure. Not the same, but parallel, my Bose PCM on my 981 Boxster simply would not turn on one day. No fuse problem, had not been sitting for any length of time, etc. Since it is a fairly new unit with Blue Tooth, good Nav, etc, and $3000 + to replace I sent it to Becker US in NJ. They have/had a flat rate repair program with a year warranty. It was about $1100, but guaranteed, and I did not have to swap out any other components. Unit has worked flawlessly for 2 years now. In your case, if you have the older PCM, it may be worth investing in an alternate system.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So, while replacing the stereo would probably have worked - it turned out to indeed be the 10A fuse on the back of the deck that had blown as well as the main fuse. I first verfified power at the main fuse. I also took out the amplifier behind the spare wheel - but there was nothing to see. Pulling the deck is easy (when you've done it before). There's the little bugger right there.
