It's like there is dust on it, and a clean mark just off to the side.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all.
I'm sanding and polished my headlights on my 03 C4S. Got the right one done. It came out super nice. However I can look inside the assy and see some thing going on with the surface of the spherical lense infront of the main bulb (Pic attached below).
It's like there is dust on it, and a clean mark just off to the side. Maybe from a drop of water?
Does anyone know if I can disassemble the back of the housing to get that spherical lens out to clean it? I'm pretty happy with the result at this point, and will take it. However if I can clean it without hacking up the assy I would.
Suggestions?
Thanks,
Michael
Well. Looks like I answered my oun question.
I found this video...
You Tube
It's the projector housing lens that seems to have some dust on it. From watching this guy who knows the headlight assy very well seem to struggle somewhat, I think I'll leave it alone for now. Maybe if I find a damaged headlight to practice on, I'll try to pull the projector housing to clean it at a later date.
Hi Michael,
First of all, great job on refurbing your lens!
The projector lenses in the 996 get clouded over time, and more importantly, the chrome of the projector bowl loses a lot of its reflectiveness.
I'm linking a comparison video here that shows a projector that came out of my 2002 C2 next to Retrofitlab's replacement.

The difference in light output and the sharpness of the cutoff is nothing short of amazing!
I was so impressed by the RFL retrofit that I became their exclusive US distributor. I stock all kits in Denver, CO and can ship within 24 hours.
The retrofit kit for your Litronic headlights starts as low as $260 shipped. (The $130 Philips premium DS2 replacement bulbs are optional, although I highly recommend them)
