Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It has been a while since I replaced my IMS bearing...
Leading evidence: 'Replace ims bearing' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean bottom of oil pan' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Decided to inspect ims bearing because of what i have read.

I followed the steps as if I was replacing the bearing.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

2000 996 c2 90k mi, I am only owner, runs great. Had clutch done at 60k, oil changes every 4/5k. Decided to inspect ims bearing because of what i have read. Locked TDC, locked camshafts both sides, removed all three tensioner, flange came off easily. Bearing is intact dual row. But shaft is not centered? WHY? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR ANYONES HELP ON THIS.
What were the cam deviations BEFORE the process was carried out? If cam timing is off, the shaft will not be centered, and timing will usually slip during the procedure. This is why we developed the pre- qualification process for the IMS Retrofit procedures.
Were the chain tensioners pulled
before
the IMS flange was removed?
Post a pic of the shaft position.
If you're that far into it - why not get the IMS solution and replace it? The hardest part of the entire project is essentially finished, and it sounds like you're more than capable of doing the rest.
its slightly to the right 1oclock position. Slightly. The shaft does move and i can center it, but wants to end up in that position. The three tensioners have been removed.
Yes timing tensioners are removed. And the shift is slightly to the 1oclock position. I followed the steps as if I was replacing the bearing. Locked TDC locked camshaft, released timing tensioners (all three). Cam deviations are 8 bank 1 and 5 bank 2. Filter clean, bottom of oil pan clean. Why would it jump timing? THATS GREAT
Yes, it is what i had planned to do. But in my limited research nobody has mentioned the shaft not being centered. Or whether or not it can be slightly moved.
It has been a while since I replaced my IMS bearing... years actually but if I remember correctly the shaft pull over to one side once the flange was removed.
