I've installed a couple of sets of Rennline Semi-solid engine mounts.
Leading evidence: 'Install couple of sets of rennline semi-solid engine mounts' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install couple of sets of rennline semi-solid engine mounts' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. Re-installed both with blue loctite, no issues since.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm still getting used to the concept of the engine hanging from the mounts, instead of being supported by them (my previous automotive experiences are with front-engine muscle).
Question to those that have replaced their engine mounts. What do you recommend?
I street and track the car. But don't want to go all the way with solid mounts. Nor do I want to replace with stock Oem mounts. Want something in between. Thoughts?
Flat 6 recommends OEM. Aftermarket semi-solids can possibly cause issues with the MAF sensor and some other things. The stiffer semi-solid mounts generate more vibrations, which is what I recall Jake saying is the main issue and why OEM is optimum. Maybe he will see this thread and chime in, but I'm due for mounts myself and will be going with OEM or Rein.
I know others have gone with Function First and Wevo and really like them with no issues, so I'm sure you'll get answers both ways. As much as I'd like to go semi-solid, I do not see any benefit that will improve the driving experience much.
I've installed a couple of sets of Rennline Semi-solid engine mounts.

They're a little fiddly to install, but once in the people I installed them for really liked them.
One came back a week later and had me re-do them with the stiffer inserts.
I went with OEM due to cost (2x$80 vs $350) and then found out that's what Jake requires for his rebuilt engines.
Glad I didn't spend a bunch of money needlessly...um...this time.

Its a common mod to install OEM mounts with 3M Windo-Weld injected into the cavities. This gives you a semi-solid mount. Not a full urethane mount. Sounds a lot like what youre looking for.
I put the RSS semi-solids in mine. They brought out some resonances in some loose panels in the car. Got those fixed. There are no permanent vibrations that I can tell. They settled the loose feeling in the rear when shifting under power. I have no way to judge them against new OEM's. I'm happy. The difference in performance is probably only realized by a very very small percentage of drivers. I'd save the money if I were doing it over.
I installed those rennline semi-solid tunable mounts linked above in my 996 Turbo that I drive on the track.
With new OEM mounts the car would turn in, get set up, and then feel like a gigantic hand from the sky gave it a nudge on the inner back corner. Very disconcerting. The rennline mounts with medium upper and soft lower inserts completely banished that extra nudge. The Turbo engine is much heavier than the M96, and the nudge was the mounts letting the engine wiggle around a bit.
The rennlines add some NVH to the car, not enough to be bothersome to me.
For my street driven 996 Turbo I went with Rein OEM replacements.
I'm going to go with OEM this summer. It's a daily driver and I've heard about folks not liking the vibrations and noise due to the solids and have swapped them back out.
Have you considered 993 rs engine mounts? Good performance, very little vibration but just enough to remind me there is a high performance engine back there, and the price is right.
I did not notice a difference from the stock mounts. My stock mounts were still fine, in decent shape. It was a pro-active change to go with the transaxle mount insert. Stiffer at both ends.
What I DID notice...after having the transaxle down to do IMS/RMS/AOS - about 2 months later, I had buzzing thru the shifter area. Put car on lift, started dropping the underpanels, found a large nut. It was one of the nuts on the transaxle crossmount. The other one was loose as well. Re-installed both with blue loctite, no issues since.

Both, the rubber expands and contracts under various temperature conditions whether operational (moving) or not. Likely to last quite a while longer in a climate controlled garage, but it seems a pretty small cost maintenance wise to not change when it seems fitting.
FWIW mine has 35k miles and will be changed in the next couple weeks after noticing some slight sagging on the tails.
That’s where I’m at for miles with my 03. I could see the difference between the originals and the new Rein ones I put in. Looked like the before and after photos everyone else has posted.
Sagging tailpipes and/or excessive vibration at idle tend to be signs. Some people notice their passenger seat shaking while sitting at idle. 18 years/57k miles, if you don't need them now you will soon. One and done for the rest of the car's days.
I have a new pair of RSS semi-solid mounts I may part with (pm me if interested). My OEM mounts are only a year old so I'm on the fence about installing these.
My tailpipes were hanging a little. Not as dramatically as many of the pictures. What mine would do was create a vibration in the rear immediately after high load acceleration. The vibration would dissipate in some seconds. After changing the mounts, this went away. Something with the alignment of the engine and driveshafts or something.
