Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

and rebuilt heads but I did it outside of the US and used the Vertex 3.4 rebuild kit.

Im just doing research and getting ready just in case, anyway im planning on changing oil every 6 months.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Considering that recently you could get a 3.4 with 12,000 warranty and new aos, ln engineering ims fix for $8,000. Im willing to go this route instead of FSI. Any thoughts experiences would be appreciated. My car is early 99 cable throttle, I dont think engine is dead, but everything on you tube and threads scare the hell out of me.
If you could get them to send the case to LN for new liners, and tack on the price + labour, you could have a much better engine for $13-15K. That would be a much better deal.
Yeah, thats a $6,000 add on and it come with new JE pistons and rings. At that price point I am honestly considering buying me another car with right production date. Thanks for the advice, the same way I invest in Nursing Homes, Funeral Homes, MJ and all the future appreciating stuff, I may put aside some cash to invest in another early 996.1.
I have a 4/98 coupe early 996.1 car. I'm of the opinion that a rebuilt engine done by a mechanic with experience building these engines is fine to enjoy the car for many miles to come. They are out there. Im at about 25k miles after my engine was rebuilt. Rebuild cost me less than 8k and came with Nikasil liners. and rebuilt heads but I did it outside of the US and used the Vertex 3.4 rebuild kit. Allowed me to enjoy driving the car without spending so much money which was my objective. I change the oil every 4k miles. Shorter oil change intervals and preventative add ons like IMSB, magnetic drain plug, spin on oil filter adapter etc. added during the rebuild help with the longevity I think.
My engine is healthy at the moment. Im just doing research and getting ready just in case, anyway im planning on changing oil every 6 months. I only drive the car like once a week. Thank you.
