I replaced my shocks with Koni sports but kept the stock springs due to my autocross class rules.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all!
I finally pulled the trigger and bought me a Porsche! This has been a childhood dream of mine and it has finally happened. I have been a long time lurker on this forum and others like it. I have taken the advice of you all and read through all your experiences and still wanted a 996! So thank you all for contributing to these forums, it certainly helped me through this 911 hunt.
I recently started a post asking about Targas, CABs, etc... But I went in a different direction altogether. I found a 2004 40th Anniversary in my price range. I bought #1277 and I am so happy with my decision on the coupe over the Targas and CABs I was looking at.
The car is out of state and I will receive the shipping information tomorrow!
Thanks again for all of your help!
It has 68k miles on it and all maintenance up to date. except for the IMSB but was inspected when clutch was done at 55k.
about to place an order with you to rid the amber bananas
I plan to get some coilovers for her soon
That's awesome it sounds like you find a diamond in the rough then !! Feel free to PM me with any questions or concerns and hopefully the wait goes by quicker then expected.

Yep Driftwood TX right next to the Salt Lick
Thanks all!! I can't wait to get started on this car! First Porsche for me buti am accustomed to German cars (vw/Audi)
My current list
2001 Audi TT- my current toy/show car
2003 vw eurovan- my wife's daily
1986 vw scirocco- just built for my oldest son
1988 Mercedes 190e- currently building for my middle son
2009 Nissan pathfinder- my daily beater
So this 911 will be another toy for me
40th Anniversary is my favourite 996, especially if sitting on the *polished* rims. Missed out on buying one and still kick myself over it.
Enjoy and put up some pics soon!
Thanks everyone! I didn't drive it home because I have a large family (4 kids) and I travel 2 weeks a month for work. So my free time is occupied with family...
And yes the salt lick is great but not as good as my BBQ.....
Congrats Mario. I probably spend most of my time on the 928 forum....since I am in the middle of a restore....but I also love my 996. Ready for some pics.
Congratulations. I guess we wont be seeing the car as soon as you get it. God forbid you show a photograph of it in its original condition (ie with the pumpkins). Guess you can't wait to start tearing it apart. Get them very trendy coil overs on it etc...
Congrats dude, those are some shiny rims, i could never get mine to shine like that!
Looks like somebody stole your BOSE sticker on the driver side door speaker
Enjoy your ride, they are amazing!
The TT is for carshows now. It was my first goal achievement and is worth more to me sentimentally than what it is worth.
This 911 is for driving and is one step closer to having my "goal" cars completed.
Now, I need some coilovers and get some wheels spec'd
Was able to take the 911 out for some drives in the last two days... And I will say, WOW!! I should of bought one sooner! It's fantastic! The sound of the motor is intoxicating!! My mpg suffered but oh well! Now I want some fabspeed exhaust goodies so I can hear it more!!
So far this has been a blast!
Pic after a nice romp through the hill country of Texas
How the hell do you go anywhere or not scrape on the TT? That front bumper would've been ripped off in no time around here.
Hell I can't even ride around here on GT3 specs and had to raise it up some.
The TT is on air... I have bagyard air struts (bilstein and double bellow bags) and using Ridetech E3Pro with levelers for management
So I can control my ride height. Like I said it is an over done showcar. I went a little crazy on the mods. The Porsche will be the driver!
It's Hydraulic. I am unsure of the brand at the moment since I am out of town for work. But I bought it about 5 years ago. A friend of mine knew the Manager of a Walmart Supercenter, they were replacing their lifts and asked us if we wanted to buy the old ones. So 300 bucks later I got a lift. It isn't pretty but it works great! I use it all the time.
Well the pcar has to weight a bit to get coilovers. I got a great deal on some k18 kinesis in 5x100 bolt pattern (rare and specs perfect for my Audi) so I jumped at the chance and scooped them up.
The even better part is now the pcar gets the k28 kinesis since they are Porsche fitment 5x130!!!! So my new girl will also have kinesis in the near future!!
These will be on the pcar
Check out bumperplugs to fill those holes in the bumper for the front license plate. Eric the owner is a member here and a great guy. He also makes some custom interior bits. Hurry up and get some GT3 seats for the 996! I also highly recommend a Dension gateway to hook up an iPod.
Also, sorry to flame but tree mirror air freshener?! A full leather interior car should smell great even ten years later. If the car stinks, give a call to Phil at detailer's domain, also a member here in the concours forum, and he can advise you on some products. Personally leatherique treatment on the leather does it for me.
Good choice on the 40ae. I can't wait for the post-mod pics. I do recommend replacing control arms and thrust links in the front "while you're in there" and maybe upgrade to the shimmable gt3 lower control arms for camber adjustment. I say this because mine has similar mileage and the rubber bushings are definitely starting to go. I replaced my shocks with Koni sports but kept the stock springs due to my autocross class rules. The install isn't too bad. PM me with any questions.
Quick update:
I am completely in love with this 40th. It is just a blast to drive! I so should of bought one earlier!!!
I finally got the new wheels for the Audi. So the k28s are about to be torn apart and color match the faces GT Silver. I also ordered some Ksport coilovers for the pcar.... Slowly but surely
Thanks!! I love them too!! I have three favorite wheels and they are all kinesis!!! The k18s, k28s and the supercups!!! Supercups are last on the list for me to get!
I am excited about putting the k28s on the Porsche!!
Both your 40thAE and TT look awesome. Looking forward to seeing pics of the progress. But can you put the Scirocco in the background next time? An '88 16V was my first car and I still miss it!
Thanks, mas05 - sounds like a fun project with your son. The scirocco looks like my car's twin there from the side, except for the rims. Those things are wild. I don't think I could ever put them on a car, but I have to say there's part of me that likes 'em.
Ok, sorry for the digression... back to the Porsche part of this thread...
Awesome that you have a seventeen yo son and still can have a nice Audi TT that can be admired by punk kids(youth, j/k). Compliment btw.
You weren't into mini truck low riders back in the day by chance?
lol actually, yes from 15-20 I was into mini trucking (it was the late 80s) ... I had a lowered 85 Toyota longbed pick up (22re).. I plan to get a early mid 90s hardbody to use as my airport commuter
currently using that bagged 190e which is my 15 year old sons ride. He turns 16 in March so I will need something to leave at the airport parking lot😜
Some updates:
K28s apart and at the painter to color match the car:
Tires are here, went with the hankook ventus v12s.... 255-35-18 fronts and 295-30-18 rears
Please note the wheels are 18x9 front and 18x10 rears not worried about the rears... Kinda a bit nervous on the fronts.
Fabspeed Supercups came in today
Coilovers should arrive on Monday and the wheel parts will be returned by Friday... I however will be out of town from early Monday to late Thursday night... Which means this next weekend is going to be very busy!!!
So I was busy on New Years Eve!
Got the wheels back on Monday Night and had to put them together to get tires mounted on Tuesday:
Tires got mounted and then off to install the JIC Cross coilovers. Everything went very smooth and as expected. I am needing some spacers (10mm) in the front to totally pull off the fitment I want but I am quite pleased.
so far very happy!!! Once the spacers get here, then alignment and real camera photos!!!
Happy New Year!
Well thought I would give a quick update! I just completed my first year of porsche ownership and I am quite pleased! For this anniversary, we went to a HPDE at a local track (Harris Hill), got to do parade laps on COTA here in Austin and I picked up some goodies. I also found a hardbody to use as a beater:
I started with this:
and finished it like this:
Back to Porsche talk:
First I was lucky enough to get a great deal on a Fabspeed intake, to help enhance the noise my fabspeed super cups make!
Then I bought one of Jim's color matched crests:
I adjusted the ride height and I am extremely pleased with her!!! Plans are to do some auto crossing and another HPDE this year!
a couple more pics:
yep, that's my anniversary gift from my wife (19 years)! It's a 1984 318i Baur. It's one of seven built for the US market (there are about 500-600 here all grey market/self imported cars). We actually bought it on our anniversary. It was one of those I can't believe it deals. $3k buys a nice little 129k mile runner nowadays:
of course I have suspension for it (ground control coilovers and bilstein sports) as well as some 15" enkei 92s with some yoko tires.
and yes, we are moving. The HOA hasn't been happy with my car sickness
Nice baur. I didn't know any were built specifically for the US. I had the same issue with my last place that had HOA and now live HOA free. Without the HOA you can get started on the GTR swap for your PU.
We are about to start building on 11acres in a very rural area. We hope to be out there before xmas. We can't wait to get out there. Plus I will have 2500sq of shop!!
jealous...I have nowhere to work on my '55 356...and I'm the pres of our HOA. Haha
2002 Turbo - Basalt Black Metallic / 2003 Carrera 4S - Speed Yellow / 1955 356 Continental 1500 - Rust Red
I meant no disrespect to HOA presidents
lol all my cars are legal, insured and driven at least once a week :P and I have three cars in my three car garage. lol
but seriously, if you need someone to hold onto that 356, I am sure I can make some room
I would feel right at home there, lol. I was stationed in Germany in the mid 80's thru 90's. I had several 16v Scirocco's (US Spec and Euro Spec), my buddy had a Baur, another had a 944. The German Mark to the US Dollar was very high in the eighties and we were all poor lower enlisted soldiers but we had a lot of cool cars. Congrats on the P-car, it looks fantastic, keep up the great work and good luck with the house.
Thanks! I have a special place in my heart for 1980s German cars! I plan to get a mk1 scirocco next and then a 944. I will have to wait a year or so, since now I am focused on our house (mainly the shop part of our house) :P
That 190e is my middle son's. It's only an 8v but it's perfect for a 16 year old.
lol! I am not into 5 spoke wheels especially overly shiny on a sportscar :P... I do however save everything so I can revert back to stock if I wanted/needed to.
Well, not much to update on the pcar but I have been busy with my little TT,
Went up to Dallas for a carshow:
took home this:
and this week SoloAutoMag featured it:

Overall a good couple of weeks in my car hobby
Update! The build and move has been completed! Still have tons to do with the property but we are in! I've added some parts to the 996 and picked up two more pcars to keep her company (84 928s and a 05 Cayenne Turbo)... Here are some quick pics of the house:
from the road:

My shop side:
Lift installed and working on installing the fabspeed X pipe and high flow cats:
got some new tails as well:

So I got into the Group Buy that Numeric Racing was having and this arrived:
I installed it last night and all I can say is WOW!!! It has made a much better driving experience that the stock unit. It feels way more solid and precise!!!
Sweet! That garage is every dude's dream. I'm assuming you don't have any zoning laws that prevent your garage from being big as your house?
I was jealous of you until I saw your 997 lights. Lol.
