Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

My mechanical skills are very poor (as are my DIY ones according to the wife!) however my electrical/electronic knowledge is better and so have checked all the fuses with a meter, and also attempted to check the connection on the compressor.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The reason for this (stupid) question is to take it to the Specialist I use is 120 miles down poor roads, and working full time is not easy to arrange given I need accompanying on drop off and collection and if the fault is something very simple as below then a quick local fix would safe a massive amount of time and inconvenience. However I don't want to do something wrong and make it worse........ There's quite a bit of background info which would bore everyone to tears. So here goes.
2003 C2 Tiptronic - Engine was out, major work, and collected the car about 4 weeks ago. I am not sure if the A/C has ever worked since engine put back. Checked by a local garage still full of gas/refrigerant, but compressor does not kick in and out.
My mechanical skills are very poor (as are my DIY ones according to the wife!) however my electrical/electronic knowledge is better and so have checked all the fuses with a meter, and also attempted to check the connection on the compressor. The cable is not free moving where it disappears behind the engine and I learnt a long time ago brute force on cables never has the desired result. So trying to feel around the back of where it goes I find an unconnected connector - pics attached. To my untrained eye this seems very similar in position/style size as to the one in the photograph which I unashamedly 'borrowed from another post'.
I am aware to many this thread will seem like a very stupid question - but in my opinion it looks like the compressor hasn't been connected when the engine has gone back in. Do people agree?
Thanks in advance!
Chris
Not sure what sort of nest it was! - It was a picture I borrowed from elsewhere on this forum.
Many thanks to Coussa for confirming the connection. Probably just total paranoia on my part but having spent 14+ years working for an electrical retailer I have seen first hand some very expensive mistakes where things have been plugged in to places they should not have been plugged in. One of the big issues with this is that the end result is often a puff of acrid smelling smoke which is the forerunner to a big bill!
The wire was duly reconnected and I now have air-con again.
Good to have an easy fix; there are very few connections that can be interchanged incorrectly on this engine but the Camshaft and crankshaft position sensors can be; ask me how I know? Haha!
