Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, I am an electronics engineer and I am having considerable difficulty with my 996 convertible spoiler warning light. From the wiring diagram, I can see that the expected spoiler elevated/retracted states (from the spoiler's microswitches) are reaching plug II (white) at the rear of the instrument cluster, as expected. The manual spoiler switch triggers the elevate/retract relays; however, the retraction requires holding the rocker switch (by the fuse box) until it is down. This seems abnormal. Also, when I try to manually deploy the spoiler, the motor continues to turn, even after the spoiler is fully up. This also seems abnormal. Since the microswitches are working fine at the back, I was wondering if anyone had experienced this phenomenon before, and whether or not it was a fault inside the instrument cluster itself? I have looked at the PCB and I can't see any open circuits due to water ingress or poor soldering etc., so I'm a bit baffled! Thanks, David

POST 2Original post

Huh...on my 99 C2 I have to press and hold the spoiler up rocker switch to deploy the spoiler, and I have to press and hold the spoiler down rocker switch to retract. I have not heard of an instance where the motor continues to run after full deployment. Maybe one of the spoiler microswitches is faulty, or the rocker switch is faulty. If the motor continues to run after full deployment, that is going to damage the gears that raise and lower the spoiler. Just remember, the gauge cluster rear spoiler light stays on when first starting the car. It goes out after you drive forward at ~5mph.

Thank you so much for this information. I wasnt aware that it was normally necessary to hold the rocker switch in both instances. Also, I didnt know about the need to travel at over 5 MPH to get it to go off either! 👍
