Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Does anyone have any pictures of a 996 passenger airbag (the main one above the glovebox) in an inflated state? Or knowledge of their inflation pattern?
My 2002 C4 is at a modification shop for the installation of a head unit with a separately-mounted floating screen above the central dash vents (similar to how Audi and other brands have screens sticking up out of the top of the dash), but we've run into a potential snag... Even though we're intending to mount the screen well to the side of the passenger airbag cover panel, there's a concern that the airbag might not deploy straight-out and thus could catch the edge of the screen (making a projectile).
Here's a picture of my cardboard mock-up showing approximately where the screen would be placed (it's an inch thick and we'd be modifying the upper dash panel behind it to place it immediately adjacent to the hazard light switch). An alternative would be to relocate the hazard switch altogether to place the screen farther from the passenger airbag, but we'd prefer to stick to the original placement if the airbag isn't a concern.
Here's an image from a google search, but it's only of limited help with the airbags deflated:
The head unit in question is a

That matches closely with these two 986 Boxster crash test videos I found:
Porsche Boxster 986 - CRASH TEST (1080p)
CRASH TEST Porsche Boxster
Playing all three videos back in 0.25x speed with frequent pausing (particularly around 0:05 into the "1080p" video and referencing the airbag cover panel movement), it
looks
like the airbag shouldn't be a problem? The airbag
does
deploy to the side somewhat, but the sideways deployment seems be mostly beyond the dash panel (vs the slightly recessed position in my cardboard mockup where the forward edge of the screen doesn't extend any farther forward than the crack between the dash and center console panels)? Are the rest of you seeing it the same way?
I don't see how the airbag could impact the screen and not the cupholder as pictured, but I also have no qualifications to speak about airbag safety systems so
