Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

2 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've searched and searched prior to posting this question. I have the following: 2004 996TT PCM 2.0 hardware (CD only) 3.0 System Software 6634 Device Type When I power on the system, I get the SYSTEM ERROR: UNKNOWN, UNKNOWN, UNKNOWN, UNKNOWN, UNKNOWN, UNKNOWN, UNKNOWN, UNKNOWN NOT AVAILABLE message When I press the Nav button is says: Navigation Not Available Any ideas on where I should start on this problem. Appreciate any suggestions.

POST 2Original post

Were you able to resolve this? Thank you Aaron East

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No I haven't resolved this issue and yours has been the only reply. I finally took it to the dealer today who said I needed to upgrade/update the PCM software to at least August 2008. Dealer cost for the the update is $550 !! Now I'm trying to find part numbers and a OEM disk that someone is selling - cheap since the dealer wouldn't guarantee this would fix the problem.

POST 4Original post

it's a break in the MOST system you have to reset pcm. close door. key in ignition turn 1 click. turn pcm off.press 1 4 8 at the same time. wait 1 min and exit car....it's something like that i forget the exact sequence if that doesn't work there's another sequence where you pull the 2 fuse and reset the pcm. most of the time 1 or the other works.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks GeeTee for the suggestion. Unfortunately I tried both of these recommended approaches and neither work. The dealer says I need to spend $500 and buy the PCM2 upgrade disks - but they don't guarantee it will fix the problem...

POST 6Original post

Welcome to the lie of high technology. None of the crap that isn't working is necessary but you bought it and you are stuck with it. It is the very reason that old car prices go up and new car prices go down. Bite the bullet and let the dealer get in there...it makes more sense than looking for voodoo solutions here.

Yeah. Nailed it. That's why 1997 camrys are totally at a premium right now.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Chris Cervelli in Denver just gave me the bad news this glitch in my PCM2 Nav is the cause of a drain with my battery. Does anyone have a recommendation on a PCM repair shop?

POST 9Original post

Same fault here.... Just got the car. PCM2 pulling a parasitic drain of 1.7 amp. Displays sat nav unavailable. Found a couple of repairers in the UK that can mend the Becker unit at component level. Debating modern replacement. Cheaper and add blue tooth etc?

Out of the blue, my '03 started saying Navigation Not Available whenever I'd turn the car on. Coincidentally, I also was getting a drained battery after a couple days of the car parked. This happened shortly after I tinkered with my Dension unit but not immediately after. Anyways, this 148 trick worked for me. 1. Key in and one click to the right 2. Turn radio off if it's on, then press 1 4 and 8 at the same time. I held for maybe 30 seconds. 3. Turn key back left (off) and remove 4. Open then close driver door. 5. Turn radio back on and mine worked normally again.
