Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

19 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Pulled the dash to replace a leaky AC core in the hvac box. Putting it all back together but I have this extra plug. what does it go to?

POST 2Original post

This plug is intended to be used for accessories (dash cam, radar detector...) Just leave it here

POST 3Original post

It is indeed extra - I believe it was for an option that no cars were actually optioned with. A great place to pull switched 12V from.

POST 4Original post

Quotes source post: 18065773

It was specifically for the hard wired phone option but I think by the end of the '90s everyone was using their Motorola flip phones. It has both switched and unswitched. Becker Auto Sound used to sell a pigtail for it but I think they're NLA now.

POST 5Original post

My car originally had the cellphone option. I had to buy a replacement trim piece from someone here who was converting his 996 to a race car. The right side of the center console was about 4 inches wide - opposite of what is shown above in the photo of a right-hand drive car. That cable is a great way to grab both switched and unswitched power as others have said.

POST 6Original post

Bill, do you by any chance still have that part? I'm curious what the part # is.

POST 7Original post

So it's just two power supplies and a ground? Nothing else? Thanks

POST 8Original post

Quotes source post: 18066101

As far as I remember, brown was ground and yellow was the mute signal for the radio. The other two were switched & unswitched 12v.

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 18066006

I do. It's in my garage. I'll check tomorrow.

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 18066101

One is always on and the other is on when the car is running.

POST 11Original post

Cable is for the inbuilt telephone, but if you don't have it, its sometimes still there. Its a point to get 12v switched and unswitched.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Nice! Thanks I managed to get the dash back together and only missed 1 screw and managed to drop another down the defogger vent. good enough for me

POST 14Original post

^^^ Thanks Bill. I was hoping there might be a full number molded in the plastic but at least that gives me something to start with.

POST 15Original post

Becker still made the cable a couple of years ago, but removed them from their website. https://www.beckerautosound.com/porsche Contact them to buy one.

POST 16Original post

The part# for that extended cover appears to be 996-552-094-04 for the vinyl version and 996-552-094-03 for the leather version. There's a suffix to show the color: A11 for black etc. The front cover is a separate piece, 996-552-979-00 again with the color suffix.

POST 17Original post

I've contacted them - unfortunately no longer available. Anyone know what the plug is (molex, etc)? Then could make your own pigtail.

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 18068583

From the looks of the plug you could probable use 4 of these type separate bullet connectors they sell at any hardware store.
