Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I have also heard that you can possibly change the transmission fluid to Motul 3000 and that can help.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Question for the group - my 2004 C4s seems to have a sloppy 2nd gear. When up and down shifting, going into 2nd seems sloppier than the other gears. I don't believe its a transmission or drivetrain issue - no slippage, etc., but more of worn out shift linkage. It has 93300 miles. It has new motor mounts less than 500 miles ago, I hoped that would tighten it up. Along with motor mounts, I also had the IMSB, RMS, clutch and transmission mount replaced. Are there linkages or wear points that I should check for obvious defects/excessive wear? Thanks in advance!

POST 2Original post

You probably hit the nail on the head - worn out shift linkage and cables. Start first by checking both ends of the cable linkage. The ones on the transmission are known to come off and leave you with no gears. Simple fix is to zip tie the cable connectors to the linkage.

POST 3Original post

I have also heard that you can possibly change the transmission fluid to Motul 3000 and that can help. Same viscosity.
